Cutting boards


I’ve been meaning to ask if you have ever considered left-handed cutting boards? I do quite a lot of patchwork & the most popular suppliers of materials looked at me as if I was mad when I enquired at a large patchwork event. They told me just to turn the board around! This doesn’t work as one side is shown in inches & the other in centimetres, both going from left to right. (I hope this makes sense - you might like to try it out on an old envelope!). I usually just subtract e.g. 18″ - 7″ = 11″, but it would be much easier with a left-handed board! I would imagine other left-handed quilters & craftspeople would be glad of this too.		We have not come across anything like this - we had to have our own left-handed rulers made with the scales going form right to left and I guess this is something that would need to be custom-made as well.   This normally requires a large volume (minimum for our rulers is 2,000 of each size at a time) so is not easy for specialist products like your cutting board.

Hacksaw

Right-handed full size hacksaws (not the puny junior hacksaw types) have the blade flush to the left and the frame to the right, so the right-handed person can make a flush cut with the right hand.   A left-handed hacksaw naturally would be a mirror image with the blade flush to the right.   I can't find one anywhere.   Do you have a tool supplier who would make a left-handed hacksaw?

      We used to but unfortunately the manufacturer ceased trading.

      We are aware of a product that is being sold as left handed - but we rejected this design some years ago as, in our view, it was not truly lefthanded.

      We are still looking for a manufacturer to produce a proper lefthanded product for us.

    I saw your left-handed computer mouse. My heart sank. There was not a left-handed track-ball mouse on the site. Is this a product that is still on the drawing table? Can I expect a left-handed track-ball-mouse in the future? Thanks for any info.

    Hello! I found this site today because I am fuming at the hassle and time-wasting I have just endured because of a new prejudice that, as far as I know, did not exist with older products. My old food blender - jug on a stand type - died, so I bought a new one, reliable make, put it firmly together and heard the jug and lid click into place, but nothing happened. Took it back to the shop, and the shop assistant made it work and refused to give me a refund, saying I can't have assembled it correctly, and the customer is not always right. Back home, slaved over it for hours more and could NOT make anything happen. Back to the shop and insisted on an exchange for a blender of another brand, and guess what, this one was dead too. During the struggle, the machine turned so it had its back to me. I put the jug on, and it worked. Look at all the photos, and the jug-handle is on the right, but the instructions do not tell us the machines ONLY work with the handle on the right. The jug clicks into place equally well and locks properly when inserted left-handed so there is nothing to indicate that this is 'wrong'. My old one, I could put the jug on left-handed and it was fine. It seems the latest models are designed for right-handers only, which is very inconvenient because I want to operate the switch with my right hand so that my left hand is ready to remove the jug and pour, as well as using my left hand to hold the blender steady, should the vibrations cause it to move. The only way to use this new one is to have the machine sideways on rather than facing me, and reach round to the far side to release the jug. What a pain! Has anyone else come across this new drawback? Does anyone know of a manufacturer that still makes the 'either way round' type? Does everyone agree it's disgusting they don't even warn us we have to put it on cock-eyed? I looked up reviews of these appliances and five others said they couldn't get them to work; now I'm betting they were all lefties, too. That's three trips to the shop, hours of messing around, and an argument with the assistant - all because of the way nature made me. And this is 2018.

    MOBILR PHONE COVERS. I have so far used flip over the top cases but these are not so good for larger phones with cases hinged on the left and upside down does not work. with so many designs it probably needs generic sizes suitable for cutting your own apertures for camera etc or has anyone found a solution. margery

    I have been searching everywhere for left handed pinking shears for dress making. I can only find ones stating "for right or left handed use" but surely that's not correct. Proper left handed scissors & shears make so much difference, I don't see why it should be different for pinking shears.

    Years ago my husband had a mug that my parents had bought him but unfortunately it broke. I have been looking for a similar mug and have been unable to find one anywhere. It was a left handed mug with the words 'Specially designed for left handers in mind' and had 3 holes cut out on right side so only a left handed person could use it. Do you stock anything like this? or would you be able to get hold of one or know where I could get one from please?

    I'm not sure if the last one went through. I'm wearing bifocal contacts and some of the tiny images were hard to make out.

    I am not trying to sell anything; I'm merely telling you about an item I use.

    For a few years now, I have been using widescreen notepads (see below, it should be page 4). I came across them at FedEx Office, then I ordered some for myself directly from Roaring Springs. They are nice because you have much more room to write; very nice for us that don't write as small and as pretty as a right-hander lol. Also, there is not wire on any side of the paper. I've yet to find notebook covers for them that work well, however I am still looking. I just thought that you might be interested in looking at them.

    I'm a 55 year old lefty looking for a left hand fountain pen for myself. I'm quite interested in the Lamy Safari with the L/H nib option. I like the idea of the profiled finger grip and the pen has some good reviews, but I am keen to hear from left handed users as to how this performs for them. I have not used a fountain pen since my college days, where I used an old Parker Aerometric with a 14k nib. I really loved using that old pen until someone stepped on it. I never found another pen I could use, and I tried loads, even other Parkers. It was originally my fathers (another lefty) who had run it in for a good 10 years before I had it.

    Did you find a good camera bag for us lefties? I too purchased a sling bag without checking first and each time I wear it have to stand there for a moment figuring out which shoulder to sling it over (not the one my instinct says). I'm in the market for a new bag.

    Any left handed saucepans? I always hold the right handed type with 2 hands because my right hand isn't steady enough to aim properly when pouring out the sauce, especially if the saucepan is heavy with lots of sauce. But holding with 2 hands is awkward and sometimes blocks my view of what I am pouring into. Thanks!

    Sewing machines inherently favour the left handed person. Everything you need to do with the fabric is done with the left hand. Threading the machine is easier for the lefty and even the bobbin direction is anti-clockwise (on mine anyway). I think when the original, hand operated machines were created, the wheel was on the right so that the stronger hand (for the majority) did the hard work of operating the machine.

    How about a left-handed gas-powered chain saw? My son is VERY left hand dominant, and he is learning to use a righthanded chain saw, which I gotta tell you, is scary to watch. There's not an ambidextrous bone in the kid's body, so he is not good with this right-handed tool. ANYONE?

    I would like to get left handed pinking scissors for my sister. Ordinary left handed scissors exist so why not pinking scissors? The pinking scissors marketed as left handed are just soft grip scissors with a right handed configuration. The problem when your left handed is the down blade is on the wrong side. They are not only akward you cant see what your cutting properly!

    I have been trying to find a pair of "true" left handed pinking shears for my sewing/patchwork. Apparently Fiskars have a left/right pair but none of the patchwork shops seem to stock them anyway where I live. Do you know of any stockist that may sell the true left handed pinking shears?       Other than a place like JoAnne's Fabrics, I can't think of a real store--how about ordering them through Fiskar's website online? You'd have to pay shipping, but if they make them, they must have them in their online store.

    i'm looking for a hand held food mixer, but the ones I have seen in shops have the lead on the right side of the body, and this gets in the way when I'm mixing. Can you tell me of makes of mixer that have the lead coming either from the left side, or centre, so it doesn't get in the way. I have looked online, but the pictures invariably do not show where the electrical lead is situated.

    I have a left handed clip board which I love but I wonder if we could take the issue of files etc a little further.

    I use a springback hardback book for my Open University course but have found a problem with dividing the different parts of.my file. At present, I have some homemade subject dividers rather than using the usual right handed ones upside down (with the hole punch on the right and the tab on the left). Would it be possible for you to consider producing something like this.

    Hi Emma, I am not sure which pens you mean but most of the ones that are supplied with ink cartridges included (like the Stabilo ones) have blue ink and we cannot change them because they are sealed packs. But there are black ink cartridges available separately for all our pens.

    Now that it is getting colder, I am desperately looking for left handed soup and serving ladles. It is so frustrating when using a regular ladle because the spout is impossible to see. Soup or beverages must be poured away from the left handed server because of the design, and I usually end up spilling, especially if I am trying to serve holiday punch. It seems like such a simple thing to fix, by placing a spout on both sides, the ladle could be used comfortably by both left and right handed persons. I hope you will consider designing a ladle like this. I have been searching everywhere.

    For dog nail trimming, I've successfully used a grinder for that purpose by Oster, an American company. It's ergonomically designed for either hand and has a clear plastic guard (like a cap on a spray can, only it threads on) covering the grinder with 4 various sized holes around the sides of the guard that can fit all sizes of dogs' nails. It gently grinds down the nail a second at a time, so you can have control of how much is ground each time the nail touches the small grinder wheel.

    Many years ago my mother bought me a left handed paring knife. It had a white plastic handle and a 4-5 inch blade with MANY small teeth. I lost it.Actually I think a caterer stole it because it was the best knife for precision cutting ever. It never needed sharpening. Made of Wilson? steel. cut through a tomato with absolute precision. Almost like a surgical blade. I like your left handed knives on this website but the teeth are too big. Any chance you can get us left handers some more teeth???? thank you.

    Does anyone make a small saucepan with the pouring lip on the right side? It might prevent sauce going where it's not supposed to. Also a wooden spatula with the curve on the other side would make it easier to do scrambled eggs.

      If you happen to attend a craft fair where there is a person making wooden spoons and spatulas, you might find a left handed spatula. that is where I bought mine. You might also order one from him/her and have it mailed to you. They are great. No dishwasher, and occasionally some mineral oil to keep it in great shape. I love mine. Good luck.

    I just wondered if screw top bottles are considered to be right handed because of the right handed threading in the neck where the lid screws on or if they are considered "generic" items that lack any handedness. Normal screw top containers are sometimes easier to open with the left hand if they are on tight as a counter clockwise motion is required with that being the natural motion for the left hand to use. However, when putting the lid on a motion is used that is more natural for the right hand.

    I am looking for a left-handed pouring ladle so that when I make jam I can pour into the jars without getting into a sticky mess. You mention ladles on your website, but I can't find one in the shop. The ladle would need to be elongated to the left with a really good pouring lip.

Can you bring them back please? Most things are adaptable with practice but not scissors and as a keen seamstress this is something that is missing from my toolbox.

    Can you help me, I do a lot of modelmaking, ie scale model galleons etc. For a long time now I have been looking for sets of l/h wood files but everywhere I look I cannot find any model shops that stock l/handed small wood files. Now if I look up american modellins shops etc, lo and behold there are L/handed files of all sorts. I dont want to have to send to america for my supplies as it takes a long time, and you have to pay import taxes etc. Can you help me.

    Left handed spiral notebooks A-4, UK - college ruled preferred. I have located several from companies in the USA and have purchased them in the past. They are fantastic - especailly for taking notes in high school and college courses. Now my son is in school in the UK with a different paper size and hole punch. He really would like lefty spirals but I can't seem to find anyone in the UK that offers lefty notebooks. Any suggestions? (I'm actually shocked that Anything Left-Handed here in the USA does not offer lefty spirals on their web site???)

    I'm a geologist and to produce engineering drawings I require a scale ruler. Although you can get left-handed regular rulers I have never been able to find a left-handed scale ruler (a triangular one e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Architect's_scale). Many of my drawings require vertical measuring so it's annoying using a 'right-handed ruler' because I need to re-orientate the page to see what I'm doing.

      I'd love a left-handed scale ruler too! I design and sell kitchens and bathrooms, and use 1-to-20 and 1-to-50 scales quite a lot when drawing or reading architectural plans.

      If I'm honest I rarely have any problems using the usual right-hand oriented items like pencil sharpeners and tin openers, but the ruler thing does bug me!

    i know its quite a specialist subject, but im a dog groomer learning to cut with right handed scissors with my left hand, this damages the blades and they are so expensive to sharpen or replace! there are also stripping knives that i need to do hand stripping with. could you put some lefty- pet care items on this site please? i would be ever so greatful! =]

    Hey,

    Sewing Machines already are left handed, they were invented by a lefty which is why the needle is on the left not the right. :) So any sewing machine is a left handed sewing machine.

      I am a 43 year old lefty... Just teach him to use it right handed and he will, its amazing how versatile he will become.. You dont need left handed things you just use to learn the other way around and .... its becomes an advantage
      I use right handed scissors perfectly, I play the guitar right handed... I even have good hand writing because my mum taught me how to hold the pen and not smudge..

      its not a problem at all.. just keep teaching...
      Dont be caught up in needing to buy left handed things...Its not necessary and it costs a fortune..

      I have a LH child as well as RH child... and I dont treat them any differently , amazingly the LH one is just as good as the RH at everything, but has the benefit of also being ambibex...

      Lisa as a fellow lefty ,just use your right hand and you will be amazed how quickly it just becomes normal and then you wont need to buy another one.. The LH mechandise is just a con..It would be nice but its so expensive..

    I''m looking for a left-handed digital camera for use by a friend who has had a stroke. He's tried the trick of turning the camera upside down and using his left thumb but finds this to be very awkward and has dropped and damaged his last digital camera, (yes of course he should have used the wrist strap).

    He has to concentate so hard when using the camera upside down that he isn't able to get any decent pictures quickly. He wants to be able to react quickly and get the spontaneous snaps that the other 90% take for granted so is desperate to find a lefty.

    As I have always understood it you can not plan international hockey - left handed - therefore it would be extremely unlikely that left handed hockey sticks were available. in my school day because i knew i was not allowed to play left handed at international level i refused to play the sport in case i became that good and then would be penalised as would be forced to play with a right handed stick.

    however, in roller hockey the hockey stickes are for playing on either face/side - I know this as i went on to play the sport. I believe ice hockey is the same and therefore these two sports do not have a negative on being left handed.

    Many fixed spool reels are advertised as being ambidextrous for right or lefthanded people.
    For technical reasons a true left handed reel flier should rotate anti-clockwise when viewed from the front. None of the so called ambidextrous reels do.
    Years ago manufacturers provided separate models for left and right handed use.
    There are a lot of left handed fishermen in the uk and abroad. I am sure there is a market for them Can the club make some enquiries of manufacturers for lefties reels

    I would need a left handed FLAT and CUT AT AN ANGLE wooden spoon for cooking. The ones available are slightly curved and cut at an angle only possible to use with a right hand. I've never came across one for left handed.
    Does it exist?

    Could you get left handed notebooks (wide ruled, 1 subject)? My husband and both our sons are all left handed. Our sons would really benefit from these notebooks in school. My eldest has begun writing on the back of his notebook paper so his wrist does not have to rest on the spiral binding. I'm afraid that his teachers are going to forget to look on the back and miss his assignments. Thanks.

    I was just thinking, that wouldn't it be better if the dates for the left-handed calendar etc were on the side of the page next to the middle, so that we could see more easily where we are filling in information?

    Does any manufacturer anywhere currently make left-handed chainsaws? I am a Forestry student and have been told by my Health and Safety tutor that such chainsaws used to be available in the 1980s and 90s but that he has not seen one for many years. The college does not have one and I have not been able to find them advertised on the net.
