Kitchen

Everything in this range is made for the left hand, not just turned round. Our knives are sharpened or serrated on the right side of the blade, our tin openers and corkscrews work in the direction a left-hander turns naturally, and our peelers cut in a direction you can use. We deliver worldwide.

What is different about left-handed kitchen tools

Left-handed knives and carving sets

Our knives come from the Everest range, made in Italy in stainless steel. Each blade is single-edged, serrated or sharpened on the right side only, which counters the instinctive pulling and twisting of the left hand and gives a clean, straight cut. The range includes bread, carving, cheese, chef, filleting, paring, steak, tomato and vegetable knives, with bevelled (plain) or scalloped (serrated) blades, and sets. Our carving sets are for a comfortable, accurate carving action in the left hand.

Left-handed tin openers

The gear mechanism sits on the opposite side to a standard tin opener. You position it on the left side of the tin and turn with your left hand, using your stronger and more comfortable hand. Ours is made in Italy in stainless steel.

Left-handed corkscrews

The thread is reversed, so it runs anti-clockwise. You turn the corkscrew, not the bottle. The choice includes pocket and travel corkscrews, a waiter's corkscrew, a T-pattern corkscrew and the Monopol bell and lever styles.

Peelers, canelle and zesting tools

The natural way to peel is towards the body, but with a right-handed peeler in the left hand the cutting edge faces the wrong way. Many left-handers end up peeling away from the body instead. Our peelers are either fully left-handed or double-edged, so they can be used in either direction. The Deglon canelle and decozest tools are for zesting and decorative garnishes.

Frequently asked questions

What kitchen tools are made for left-handers?

We stock left-handed kitchen knives, carving sets, tin openers, corkscrews, peelers, and canelle and zesting tools. Kitchen scissors are in our left-handed scissors range.

What makes a kitchen knife left-handed?

Our left-handed knives are single-edged, with the blade sharpened or serrated on the right side only. This counters the instinctive pulling and twisting motion of the left hand and gives a clean, accurate straight cut with much less effort.

Can left-handers use ordinary kitchen knives?

They can, but ordinary knives are made for the right hand, so the cut is usually less accurate and the knife can feel awkward to use. A left-handed knife is sharpened on the opposite side to suit the left hand.

How does a left-handed tin opener work?

The gear mechanism sits on the opposite side to a right-handed tin opener, and the parts that go with it are made for the left hand. You position it on the left side of the tin and turn the handle with your left hand.

Why do left-handers need a different corkscrew?

Left-handed corkscrews have a reversed, anti-clockwise thread, so you turn the corkscrew rather than the bottle, with a natural movement of the left hand.

Is there a peeler that works in either hand?

Yes. The Deglon dual-bladed peeler is double-edged, so one peeler works for left-handers and right-handers in the same home. We also stock peelers made specifically for the left hand.

Do you deliver left-handed kitchen tools worldwide?

Yes. We deliver worldwide, and shipping outside the UK is charged by weight.
