April Fools' Day is an annual celebration in the U.K, Europe and some other western countries commemorated on 1st April each year by playing practical jokes and spreading hoaxes.  The theme of left-handedness has been incorporated into this by some companies in recent years, based on promoting a "left-handed" version of something that clearly has no possible handedness, like a hamburger!
The origin of April Fools' Day, also know as All Fools' Day, is uncertain but it seems to have been celebrated in Britain and other parts of Northern Europe since at least the 18th century.

The Left-Handed Sandwich

UK bakery chain Sayers announced the launch of a new "left-handed sandwich" designed to fit more comfortably in the left hand and result in fewer embarrassing "spills."

All the ingredients in the left-handed sandwich had been rotated 180 degrees in order to redistribute the weight of the sandwich, so that the bulk of them skewed to the left. The packaging was also altered so that the door opened to the left.

The company's Head Sandwich maker said: "Depending on how well the left-handed sandwich goes down we may look at mirroring this across our whole range and producing left-handed doughnuts."

    Hi this is actually true I have been doing left handed check marks all my life can't do one not on keyboard but I won this. No one got me to change it even in school. Didn't really realize it was a left handed check mark it looked normal to me.

      I played the flute in elementary orchestra and automatically wanted to hold it in the left direction rather than the right direction.

    I have one! the handle is slightly twisted so as to get the full scoop of the spoon facing the right direction when stirring my coffee.

    The sandwich's weight can be fixed just by turning, so I agree that it's a joke -- but the packaging sounds great. Too many packages (at least here in the U.S.) are required to be opened either right-handed -- not likely in my case -- or upside-down. I'd much rather see the kind of ambisinistrous packaging that comes off all the way around one side.
    (I'm not calling anything ambidextrous -- if it's two right hands, I'm sunk! Thus my father and I came up with ambisinistrous at our house... far safer.)
