About the Left Handers Club

Left Handers Club

We started The Left Handers Club back in 1990 in response to requests from customers to produce a newsletter and campaign on behalf of left-handers. Our aims from the beginning were to get more left-handed products made and raise awareness of the issues facing left-handers – particularly left-handed children in school.

Our Newsletters

Our newsletters are sent out once or twice a month and cover a wide range of topics to do with being left-handed including:

  • Latest research and reports on left-handedness
  • Our own surveys and analysis
  • Latest product information and explanations of left-handed items, plus member discounts and offers
  • Highlighting the things left-handers do differently
  • Picking up on language, customs and myths about left-handers

We try our best to entertain members as well as providing useful and interesting information and resources. Use this link to see an index with links to our past newsletters

Backwards Calendar

Backwards Calendar for left-handers

Left-Handers Club membership is completely free and as a member you will receive our unique “backwards” calendar, with days running right to left – which left-handers often find easier to read .

You will also get access to a free Membership Certificate which you can personalise with your own name for printing.

I remember as a boy that the highest mark I could get was a B for my writing. I remember Mr Cowie saying my writing was getting better. The funny thing was the girl who wrote worse than me got an A. I later found out that because I wrote with my left hand had myths or legends about it. I read about a Catholic Saint who had to be discreet as his left hand lit up. Today I am very proud to be able to write with both left and right hands. I am only 2% of the 10% of left handers who can do this.

My daughter and nephew are left-handed.
  7. Evelyn Platt
I am 70 years old and a lefty. My Mum was also a lefty but was made to write with her right hand at school, because of this she was ambidextrous writing with her left hand for neatness or her right hand for speed
  8. John Law II
Well seems like being a lefty runs in the family!
  9. Michele
In my family being a lefty is right. Myself and all 4 of my children are lefties and I wouldn’t change a thing

  14. Larry Ramsey
As an elementary teacher, I always noticed my left-handed students first. They always appreciated the notice.
  15. Holly
I'm 67 years old, an American and was fortunate to attend a small town grade school where all the parents and teachers knew each other. I was also fortunate that my mother was aware of the possible issues I might face starting school. She specifically told the teacher to not try to change my handedness and as far as I recall it never came up. It shocks me that even today children are dealing with such prejudices by educators against their handedness. I have tried to spread the word to people I know that have young left handed childrens about the teaching tools you have available on your site. If it helps just one left handed child it is worth it.
  16. Drake Ssempijja
Am left-handed. HAPPY TO JOIN THE CLUB
  17. Crystal Evans
Would love to learn about items specifically for lefties.
  18. ERIN A. WELCH
I was a member at one time but I was kind of in transition and haven't heard from you all in a very long time! and want to know which though that you all would keep sending E-mail news letters about the left-handers club, etc... so that I'm kept informed, I don't get them anymore and I wish I did! Would you please start me back up as I would greatly appreciate it and thank you so very much! My E-mail has changed to: werin919@gmail.com, please send any correspondence to that E-mail. I look forward to hearing from you all, please! THANK YOU!

Left handed people notice other left handed people but right handed people NEVER notice. I can usually spot a lefty immediately by the arm they wear a watch on. Even watches are made for right handed people! If you are left handed and wear your watch on your right arm and it's a snap clasp watch, when you bend your wrist you'll pop open the watch as this wouldn't happen to a right handed person because the clasp would be facing away from the wrist.
  20. Jessie Lefont
I’m so glad I found this website. It’s tough being a lefty in a right handlers world.
Btw my Road Name is: Lefty
  21. Vinay Kummar Srivastava
I am fascinated about helf handed children as they are mis understood, mismanaged and mis handled in classes.
  22. Lee Thomas
Hello. I gave followed you since way back when. I think it was at a fayre near Salisbury or Shaftsbury. Have been receiving newsletters ever since.

Yes I'm a leftie and proud. My mum told me that when I started to write, my grandma dud all in her power to 'correct it to the right hand. Mum said no, and here I am ...proud to be left and mum of a leftie too!

My right hand/arm does the strength work/ lifting, ironing, my handbag goes over my right shoulder, but my left hand does the fine work - writing, putting on make up etc. It's fascinating how we're all different but the same!
    1. Lee
Apologies for typos. As the quote goes.. . I always do my best proofreading after its posted.....
  23. PRATAP MAROTI PAWAR
    Nice
  24. Cathy J McKnelly
I have been a fan for decades. Thanks for all you do to help us left handers. Our way of doing "things" is not the "right" way, but rather the "correct" way for us. Too funny, how many times I've said that, especially when I make my "backwards" check marks. ✔️ is for right handers. Go for it my fellow lefties -- change the way you do your check marks!!
  25. Lesley-Anne Hodgson
    Hello,

  36. J Thompson
I have found you!! After 73 years of using right handed products, I feel that I have got used to, and mastered, most of them, but right handed serrated knives, and scissors, have always been a nuisance. It was only recently that I realised, when crafting, that the reason my decoupage cutting was not as neat as others, was because the right handed blade "hid" the edge to be cut, so cutting was always hit and miss. Now I will be ordering left handed scissors and knives. Whoopee!!!
  37. Paul
We are the only ones in our right minds.
  38. Rachel Majka
I am so glad that you have put this website together for left handed people. It is brilliant!! My son is left handed but for something’s he can use his right hand (he prefers using his left hand) the amount of time’s I see him struggle doing simple things cause what he is using is for right handed people can be frustrating to me as his mother, so that’s why I am so glad that I have this website to turn too! As they have everything you can think of for left handed people. Thank you so very much!!
  39. Jerome N Robinson
    Love this site
  40. Tania Jordaan
    Hi there
For years I shy-ed away from the kitchen
As a left handed woman and my mom did help much except forcing me to use a scissors and knitting right handed.
My first grandchild a boy is left handed.
I really don't want him to struggle
  41. Jo Anne Gonzales Murphy
    Hello,

My name is Jo Anne from the USA and I am a left handed person who writes with the paper tilting towards the left (as a right handed person would) this making is appear that I write upside down. This has been such a handicap my entire life of 53 years and now to mention that I often just don’t compute what I read or what I hear because I just don’t think there is one way to understand it. I’m hoping that this club might be a place for me and that there are others who write “upside down too”.
  42. James Ingram
I wear my watch on my left hand despite being a lefty. I know the usual practise is to wear a watch on the non-dominant hand, but I've never found it inconvenient.
  43. Lois E. Jennings
About time! Being the first in our family, I had to show my two brothers how to tie their shoes etc. It took me awhile to learn myself. My mom had to stand in front of me to show me. I gave her a headache when she watched me iron - according to her I was on the wrong side of the board going the other way. In school for sports, the teacher would show how to do things, and I'd always how to do it "left-handed". Eventually, they would say do whatever feels comfortable. So I did!
  44. Gayle
I’m a lefty all the way!
  45. basooma saleh
am so proud because of my left hand, it's very strong and hard working.
  46. Flavia
I am a lefthander from Rome, Italy!
  47. Shane
The calendar thing is really cool.
  48. Peter Russon
After many years of surviving in a Right-hand world it is great to see other like handed people out there. Making the righties understand our world could be done by asking them to use our world items ! Or be devious and change them without their knowledge and watch the brain fog
  49. John Alpers
My poor mother drove all over St. Louis in the mid 1960's trying to find a pair of left-handed sizzors.

The small parochial school I was attending did not have any left-handed sizzors. I was about to fail paper cutting and Mom would not allow it.
  50. Ouko Castro Otieno
We are blessed to have the most creative and innovative minds under the sun.
  51. Sandra Tillett-Hain
My mom was a Lefty who was forced to use her right in school (they tied her left hand down). The first thing she did when I started school was to tell the teacher to leave me to my left-handed ways!
  52. Neil Collins
Thanks for letting me join, never realised their was a Left handers club.
  53. Kim
Both myself and my best friend at school are left handed, we were sat together so our writing position didn’t clash. My mum celebrated my uniqueness, I’m 3 of 5 and the only lefty in our pack.
  54. Lorenzo Shaw
I am a proud LEFT HANDED person
  55. Shirley Glover
Probably a very only statement however, here it is just in case
"Left-handers are the only people in their right minds"
Difficult to get people to teach me to crochet but I can knit anything although people look at me and can't work out what I am doing.
  56. Olaoye Ayodamola
I got the most beating of my life because I was using left hand by my parents, not until I was hospitalized and the doctor happened to be a left handed man aswell. Thank God for the doctor in my life, he was the one that convinced my parents then
  57. Tinashe Macmillan Goko
Lefties are the best, forget about the rest lol

      Love being a lefty
  58. Roger Siggery
    Hello,
I checked if you were still around after telling my wife about you. I remember you from back in the day when I used to shop in Carnaby St. I played in a Band called Jason Crest in
'67/'68 whose records are now selling for big money;google 'em! Funny that, nobody was buying them them when we were trying make a living!!
Anyway I'm only telling you this 'cos I'm a left handed drummer. Rare breed, me. Phil Collins is a lefty and there ARE others but not too many!!
    Best regards

when i was before toddler age, my dad made my very 1st desk & “accidentally” installed the arm rest to the left side, & the rest was history (•:
  61. Dorothy Kaminski
I'm 78 and was completely left-handed; learned to print left but switched to right-hand to learn cursive. Why did I switch? I was always faulted by my parents and grandmother for using my left hand. I guess I needed their approval?? As result, have trouble with left and right while driving; have trouble printing right handed; it just feels more comfortable to look thru any magazine back to front...not sure why. Find myself switching hands eating not sure why.
  62. Joe Douglas
It's so brilliant to find something like this. Glad to be part of it!
  63. Shamika Denson
Happy to be apart of the club
  64. Jerrel Charlton
I want to say thank you to everyone that are behind this club and hello to my fellow lefties!!!!!! I am happy to see that there is a club for us
  65. Allessandro D. Condiff
I am so glad I found this site. I drive a manual car, and it is difficult sometimes, but with most most left handers we are very adaptable.

I remember when I started playing baseball, it was difficult for my father to find a right handed glove. Finally, he found one.
  66. Jolie
Never knew we had a club! So cool!
  67. Sandra Silvestri
so glad I have found you, I have struggled for years with various right handed items!!!

  72. Sandy
My mother went to my kindergarten teacher telling her to make me write only with my right hand since she felt the left hand was from the devil. Thankfully my teacher happened to be left handed and told my mother off.
    1. Emran mahmud
I can’t believe in my later years of my working life ive come across a place that is solely with left handers in mind.
  73. Tamara Baker
It's nice to see a company that can make a lefty's life a ittle easier. They shouldn't have to adapt all the time,I love being able to make my son's life a little less of a struggle. Left handed scissors & ruler are brilliant for him in school.
  74. Nellie Shields Cook
Is a right handed person gets difficult to teach kids how to do things with their left hand . Looking forward to any tips I can pick up on this
  75. Daniella Eckardt
I'm not alone in my struggle lol

  78. Charles Coressel
I am going to do a research paper on lefthanders and came across this site. I am one of seven children and my mother was 40 when she had me along with my birthday is in August. I think this is cool, a club for lefthanders.
  79. Christine westall
I was the only one out of 6 other siblings that was left handed . My mom said she couldn’t teach me to knit because I was left handed
  80. Hugo Pharr
At last.... A left handers club. In Scotland we are called Corry fisted.
  81. Susan Allen
My Grandmother was left-handed so she taught me how to knit and Crochet.
When I found out that my Grandson was left-handed, I taught him how to write his name as he had the same initials as me and was struggling with how to hold his pen.
When I started school in the early 50's, I would not do anything as I was not allowed to use my left hand, they soon relented when they spoke to my mother at the end of the first week.
  82. Sandra Preston
I am so glad to have found you again. I used to visit your shop on Beak Street when I worked at Cranks on Marshall Street many years ago,and I've never forgotten you.

I now have a two and a half year old granddaughter who is also left- handed, and like me, has been from the very beginning.

I'll be teaching her how to hold a pen/pencil correctly and how to tie her shoes like I do. So much to look forward to, including your newsletters and other information.

Thank you for all you do!

I shall look forward to your newsletters
  83. Graham Hawkins
I can't believe in my later years of my working life ive come across a place that is solely with left handers in mind. Now that I have reached 60 i am thinking of the not so distant future when just doing the easiest of tasks more challenging in a right handed world. Both my wife and I are left handed. This club will be of great value too us Thankyou. Like the saying goes. Its right to be left.
  84. Stephen Rawlins
I too am left-handed and it’s nice to know there are people like myself who are like me
  85. Avril Carson
It's great to see others awareness of some of the awkwardness in life caused by being left handed. I'm mega happy to be a Lefty!!
  86. Christine Stevenson
Was not aware of the club, and have reached my 75th year before finding you! It was very hard when I was a child to be a left hander, especially when at school. I look forward to seeing your newsletter and new products.
  87. Maurice Ochieng Ajuma
I am left handed since birth and am proud of it
  88. Caprice
I was born a lefty. It took only about six weeks in 1968 for my 1st grade teacher to terrorize, ridicule, physically punish and humiliate me into NOT writing left handed. I have become an ambidextrous out of necessity, but I still do most things in the left-hand way (even using chopsticks) and am relearning how to write left handed again.
  89. Bruce David Mock
Am I the only left hander that goes through a magazine from back to front?
Being left handed it is easy to start in the back and go forward.
  90. Jean
After living in a right handed world all my life my husband (a right hander) had a stroke. It affected his right side.

My stepson and I were both left handed the majority of the implements in the kitchen were left handed - even the kettle had the handle pointing to the left side!

We discovered that because my husband had already adapted to using most of the items in the kitchen left handed he was able to recover more quickly. That was until I told the physiotherapist that he wasn’t using his right hand and the reason why!

I first brought something from anything left handed way back when the shop was in Beak St! You could say I’m an old customer.......
  91. Chrissy Lawson
I am absolutely ecstatic to have found your site. I am a single mum of 6, my youngest daughter is 20 and the only one who is left handed, and she seriously struggles living in a right handed society. We've recently been told she has learning disabilities, and social workers are very good at making her feel useless and inadequate. I found out years ago, through trial and error, that she manages very well when I make and laminate 'flash cards' with pictures and words for things like her clothing, she can be independent and put her own clothing away, and I am sure once I get her everything she needs to cope with normal life, and she finds they're just for her, and therefore so much easier to use, this will really boost her confidence no end. THANK YOU for giving us both our sanity back!
  92. Jacki Hemmings
Great to be in the club thanks!
My daughter and I (she’s one of 4) are both lefties. You’d think they all would have been as both us parents were lefties.
I didn’t realise there were calendars like that fabulous!
  93. Thomas Kraus
Hi. Great service you are providing. I went to a catholic school for a year when I was much younger. I was writing with my left hand when I started school. The teacher would tell all students to write with their right hand. It did not feel right for me, but the metal ruler she always had, hurt when she swatted my left hand. After leaving school, I noticed that I was doing everything, like throwing frisbees, baseballs, hitting golf balls and even pointing my finger, with my left hand. Now I have been doing Sudoku puzzles with my left hand. For the first year, my puzzles looked like a 3-year old filled them out. Now it looks pretty good. I am also starting to write as a leftie, but that will take a little longer. My signature will always be right-handed, (because of credit card purchases, etc.) but my goal is to write everything with my left hand within 2 or 3 years. Thanks for setting up this Left-Handers Club.
  94. Zondra
Amazing products. They look so useful.
  95. Joyce Johnson
My Grandson is a 9year old leftie, and difficulties are beginning to surface, I am right handed and find it so difficult to help him in some circumstances, so I plan to research as much as possible to help lefties and highlight the problems they suffer in a right handed world. So will be looking for as much help and advice as your site can possibly offer. Thank you for being here.
  96. Monique Goar
I am just a left handed person in a right hand world..
  97. Priscilla Smith
    Love my Left Handers Membership!
  98. Albert Samuel Cromwell
Highly delighted to join this Club. We have been sidelined for too long. Why is it that a left handed person cannot be a chief in Ghana. Did we decide to be left handed?
  99. Teresa Burnett
Thank you so much for doing this. I am a righty but my granddaughter is a lefty I have been beating my head against the wall trying to teach her how to wright. This turned ed a light bulb on for me!
  100. Rhonda Clark
    Proud To Be Left Handed
Society fails too often to realize how many left handed people there are in the world. One in every ten people are left handed. Unfortunately we suffer daily with equality of life and the acknowledgment of our existence.
Left-handed people have been deliberately discriminated and discouraged for centuries. We have been considered witches, demons of the devil, unlucky, malicious, dishonest and clumsy. We have been forced to use the right hand in every form of daily life. We are not stupid or clumsy we fight with right handed equipment everyday. Tie your right hand behind your back and do all tasks with you left hand for 25 minute see if you feel the awkwardness.
As a left handed person I never spoke out about the indifference until the last few years. Most left handers choose not to elaborate on short comings. It is time for acceptance. If it were any other minority this would not even be an issue. Show awareness and compassion to those you know who are left handed.
  101. Amanda
I'm a left handed adult, who has struggled for 40 years with right handed stationary. Etc it would be great to find items that can help me. As a kid I had left handed knife and scissors. But nothing since as the shop we got them for. Closed. It's great to find you online.
  102. Sarah
My mum and son are the only lefties in our entire family,. This is all new to me!.
  103. Suzanne Moran
Love, love it! It’s about time we are recognized!
  104. Suzie gallagher
I am the only lefty in the family. No grandparents or great grandparents, no aunts or uncles, no mum or dad, no brothers or sisters. I have 3 children of my own and again no lefties among them.
  105. Linda Payne
I’m left handed and my one older brother was lefty. There were 3 kids, so 2 out of three is not bad.
  106. Lakota Arnell
I am 1 of 8 and the only lefty out of my siblings but my step dad who raised me since I was a baby is also a lefty.
  107. Jodi Jacobson
    This is so cool!
  108. David Tedder
struggling with phones and computers all right hand bias, calendar easy, touch keypad I would read 147 258 369

Are there any locations in the states I can attend I live in south Florida.
  113. Lynn Kempton-Lowe
I am left-handed. My Mother was right-handed, My father was right-handed, My three siblings are all right-handed. What do you suppose caused me to be born left-handed? ...
There's even more to the story ... Although I eat with my left hand and write with my left hand, that's about all that I do with my left hand.
I can't throw a ball with my left hand, nor much of anything else with it. Some people have said that I am not left-handed - I am ambidextrous - which means that I can use both hands equally well. But that's not true ... I can't eat or write well at all with my right hand and I can't throw a ball or anything else with my left hand!
I'm just plain strange! (lol) I've don't need all of those left-handed gizmos, as I don't need them - I use all of the tools the same way that I right-handed person does.
I have high blood pressure and I have read that if I were to ever have a major stroke, my other side would be able to take over much more easily than most people, because of this. Apparently, I am left-handed but right-brained!
Does anyone else share this with me? I have three children who were all born right-handed too. I am the misfit in my family for sure! ... (lol)
  114. Ann White
My mom was a leftie. Dad could use either hand. Brother who shared the same birth date but 17 years apart was left handed too. I love it. But left hand was smacked with a ruler when I was a child-70 years ago-to force me to use my right hand! Didn’t work!
  115. Rachel Hines
    I love being left handed

    Dear Keith,
I do not know if you, or your wife, will remember me, but I joined the club ages ago. I remember you on Eggheads (BBC2). Unfortunately, before more modern and stable technology like Google I relied on individual service providers like Tiny, FreeServe, AOL or Tiscali for e-mail. Inevitably, they ran out or expired.
Therefore, is there any way you could check your records and see when I first joined? Now I am following you on FaceBook and Twitter.
PS: Happy International Left Hander's Day (2019)
    Many thanks for your help.
  118. Shelley
I was a long ago member but sadly lost track a couple computers ago. I am the person who wrote a less-than-nice letter to Playtex re their commercials offer of extra 2 or 3 extra right handed glove promotion.I sill have that (hand written) Playtex letter some where. Happy ☺ to have refound this site. BTW,I received 12 gloves with an apology.lefty of course!

I was one of the lucky ones to be born left handed, I’ve done practically anything with my left hand from doing art work to eating and writing as well
  121. Mary Nasvik
I'm one of six kids and 5 of us are lefties. Mom was a leftie in all but writing (she was forced to write with right hand.

  123. Gloria Pressley
Hi thank you for this club.I can't wait to see what's in store.
  124. Heidi Clark
I love being left handed, even though it gave me some challenges through the years. Back in the 70's and 80's, teacher's did not know what to do with me. I did everything weird or backwards. Now I see my daughter struggle with the same things I did as a left hander. If money was no object or if I could get the cute Property Brothers to redesign my home, my dream would be to completely overhaul my kitchen and bathrooms especially to be left handed accessible. Including all my kitchen utensils left handed. Plugs that are on the left side of sink, duh! And many other things. But that is a dream! Oh well, I will continue to live in a right handed world, and do my best. Thank you guys .
  125. Alimamy Bobson
Am a proud Left hander, because I am the only cold to inherit such trait from my dad, he is a left hander.
Am always unique in whatever I am doing due to left hander trait.

The pen I ordered was a gift for a friend who said it was really good and wished he'd had one years ago.

  129. Jeri Graham
I am so glad to see this as I am from the era that being a lefty was wrong. My grandfather was forced to switch in school and they tried with me but my parents would not let them. Any adaptations in school were ours to pay for or get. I’m glad things have improved.

My 6 year old is left handed and both myself and his Dad are right handed. I am looking into everything I can that will help my son and seeing what options are there are for him, such as writing aids etc.

My funniest moments are when I go for a Chinese meal.with friends who are all right handed and whoever is sitting next to me and I have a sort of chopstick fencing match when the ends clash as we eat. I try to get the end seat if it's a square table but when it's a round one there is no escape!

When I did my nurse training in university there were single chairs with a writing desk attachment that we had to use. Inevitably they were always positioned on the right side meaning my elbow kept falling through the gap on the left ( and proper) side. Oh the difficulties out there for us lefties!
  138. Gary
My mom beat me up for being a leftie when I was young and now whenever I eat with left hand she scolds me

  145. Jose Luis Ramos
Thank you for this information. I am left handed and an educator as well. I hope to use the resources provided to help enhance the educational experiences of my students. It also has given me a new sense of hope and confidence knowing I am not alone.
  146. Jacquelyn McBain
After 63 years without paying attention to my left-handedness...except when seating with a group at a table, in which I always choose a left corner so I don't bump elbows while cutting my food, I have finally taken the plunge and bought some scissors.
I am so impressed I am going to order just about everything you sell and have a left-fest!
Thank you. I wish you also sold power tools, like drills. The torque is dangerous.
    1. Juanita
I have just married a 75 year old lefty and he can't understand why nail clippers, scissors, peelers etc never work for him. I just showed him this site and he is excited to try some new gadgets!
    2. Marilyn Gail
I know the old seating dilemma! Nothing worse than colliding with a righty. Also, asking to change seats and having to go into detail, because they don’t get it. I try and take a left corner seat or head of the table. Being a lefty has helped me develop a good sense of humor!
  147. Wendy
I wish i had found this group years ago when my sons teachers jept telling me ge was lazy and was actually right handed and not left which i always knew he was from a very young age. The pages i have seen so far make many of the issues he has had so far in life much easier and i will be printing and purchasing a few more products that i didnt know about. Keep up the amazing qork and thank you so much
  148. Becca Entrikin
I'm proud to be a unique individual and being a lefty makes me that more unique, sure there are A LOT of struggles. But I know that if I was right handed my uniqueness would go down. I just love being apart of the few 10% of the community. ^_^
  149. Vijay
Being left handed I have gone through lots of troubles and many time I found myself in problems. When I was learning in my school days doing additions, substractions was big task for me even I had understand rules of these and other mathematical operations.many people forced to me to be right handed.Handling some objects challeng me.I love music too much but could'nt have managed to do career in this lovely field.I am studying science now.

Got a smile out of your information on twins. I have an identical twin and of course I was the lucky one and blessed with being left-handed! Her children are lefties and mine are right-handed, but my grandson is left-handed. My dad was also a lefty and we both were somewhat dyslexic. He earned 2 doctorates by possessing an incredible photographic memory. (Due to his tendency towards dyslexia). My dad helped me accommodate and was great to play catch with. I have one brother as well who is left-handed. I am glad the legacy of left carries on!
  154. Tara Schroeder
I remember when I was in 3rd grade I tried writing with my right hand because I didn't want to be different. The teacher noticed my troubles of attempting to be a righty and made me switch back.

I wonder now, if being left handed is the reason I like to read a magazine from back to front? Hmmm
    1. Jacquelyn McBain
      Yes...that's a common trait among left-handers. Can't remember where I read it but it's a real thing.
  155. peter kent

I have for decades wondered if my mother may have forced me to be right handed. My grandfather was left handed and everything I do besides write, I do better left handed. It has always been something I have wondered about until I found this site and other people's comments. Many of their problems I also have, and especially the people who know they were forced to be right, is very helpful for me to find more information about it. Thank you for this site!!
  157. Kris Hendry
In my family, being left-handed makes me unique... I get looked at weird, people just don't understand how I hold things a certain way, they try to copy me and fail miserably... and I love it...! Being a leftie is something to be embraced... we're indeed lucky people :)

I noticed my results of my test. I'm proud of being left handed, I've been through some bad times and problems with this. One time a teacher told me she would fail me if I didn't switch hands. She kept giving me low scores because she knew me by my name and knew I was the left handed one. Then one time a friend who was right handed, I asked since we had a report to do. Could he write his and don't sign it, and I'd do the same. That Monday came around we checked and we did what I asked. Then we both laid them on her desk, she read both of them very clear. them she wondered who wrote these, after that he signed his and I signed mine. She couldn't believe one of those was mine. then I told her afterwards, don't you ever say you couldn't read my writing at all

Really me too, I'm not going to lie it's kind of hard to be left handed when everyone in my family thinks it's really wearied to be left handed.
  165. Michael
Dear Madam/sir. Not sure if I qualify for this membership of such an illustrious club. I was born left handed, living in the countryside where superstition was rife a left hander was considered to be at least unlucky at best: or work of the devil at worst. So one of the cheesemakers/cooks made it her mission to rid me of this awful curse. (she was a Methodist) She largely succeeded as she was on hand for meals etc., I do not know left from right & have to think about it. But my big revenge is that I still throw left handed!!
Please excommunicate me if I am not eligible for your club, but do remember that if I am accepted you will be heaping revenge on our departed cheesemaker/cook. Amy was her name if you wish to insert pointed objects into dolls on my behalf.

I'm a LEFTY , SAGITTARIAN and WAR BABY ( 1944 ) and my mother said I always questioned everything in specific detail and was classed the Family Trouble maker for my inquisitive nature. Teachers made continuous attempts at forced conformity, but failed.
Personally I am assured that all LEFTIES have Superior Intelligence, Spatial Awareness and a Higher Degree of ESP. My nickname that stuck to me in my time in RAF, Bomber Command 1960's ,during the Cold War Cuban Missile Crisis as a ground crew Radio Coms/ECM Technicin probably sums up my nature as a KRAKATOAN. Highly Volatile but Decisive and Specific.
THIS WORLD NEEDS A MASSIVE INCREASE IN LEFTIES , PARTICULARLY INTELLIGENT LIBERATED YOUNG WOMEN !!!

I have a question regarding medication. I learned in college that left-handed people tend to have a higher sensitivity to medication. I wasn't really sure about that until I was diagnosed with a condition that could not be treated by medication because of a hypersensitivity to that type of medication! I wondered if anyone else ever came across this bit of information.

Thanks for providing this website for the most over-looked minority in the world!

I used t' be right handed until the early eighties, when I had an accident which resulted in my having a fractured skull. Since then I've been a left hander. It's fair t' say that I'm proud t' be left handed, and both my Grandad n Great Aunt are too.
  172. Tracy
I love being left handed and I can do the same things that rightes can do but better LOL
    1. AH
Hi, I found this site while searching up lefties and I think it is awesome!! I am left handed and it is fine. The only thing I don't like about being left handed is the way some righties act towards me. (And the ink smudges)
  173. Caty Lynch
I frequent an online board that is primarily devoted to classic film/movies. Someone posted an off-topic message to the question of being left-handed.

That got me to thinking about any reference to left handedness in movies. I could only think of one: In DESK SET, with Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, Tracy notices that one of the secretaries is left-handed. He comments that the office set up is wrong for her, and that the desks should be reversed to allow her better advantage of sunlight.

Do other examples pop to mind, for anyone else??
  174. Duncan
I'm sorry but I think you are wrong! Writing with a 'hook' is the way lefties try to adapt to the way children are taught in school to write with their right hand. I did the same thing until about sixth grade when I began wondering why my writing with a pencil always got smeared as my hand went across the page while the other kids' writing stayed just fine. When I realized why I forced myself to learn to write below the line like everyone else. It wasn't easy, I got horrible grades in penmanship that year but I didn't care because I knew why the grades were bad while I retaught myself how to write. It had Nothing to do with genetics and Everything to do with the way writing was being taught in school!

This is the first website that actually UNDERSTANDS the concept of being left-handed. (Of course I'm left-handed, but the difference is that I'm only 12 years old) My parents also don't want me to use my real name, so I just made up a name. I also do everything with my left hand. That includes my drawings which look really amazing and you can't really tell what hand I used to draw them unless you were watching me or I told you.

I will support your cause but for reasons already stated I believe in the power of the human mind to overcome and adapt. Some children need special consideration and modern science should turn an eye to it. Please continue keeping me informed...

I have two left handed grandchildren I wish to have join your club. How do I register them separately? their ages are 9 and 7. They will be using my laptop and email address for the foreseeable future.

    Kind regards,

I wanted to know if I could join the club if I'm not a lefty, but my son is? He's four, and is showing left handed tendencies -- he'll put the pencil or crayon in his left hand automatically, and the computer mouse will end up on the left side of the keyboard eventually.
    1. Keith
Of course you can join - we are happy to have members who are supporting lefties in their family
  181. edwin
Being a member of this site makes me feel much more special.............i am a left-handed and very proud of it.
My mom is left-handed and so is my elder sister. I do thank God for it and pray i do have left handed children because left-handed people rock!!!!!!!!!
  182. Fredrich Yeager
I am left-handed natrually, but I had cancer when I was young and it permanently injured part of the left side of my brain, so my right arm, leg, ear, and eye are all extremely weak and unusable, so I became even more left-handed. But when I was nine I fell of a scooter going down a hill in west virginia and broke and dislocated my left knee, so now I'm no-footed. I can't play soccer (or football outside of usa) to save my life, however I have found that I kick balls (sports) better with my left foot, and people better with my right foot. Life is very mysterious.
  183. Marci
I am 65 & the only leftie in the family. While at Catholic grade school the nuns kept wacking my knuckles for writing lefthanded. They said it was the devils work. My Mom told them that the Lord made me that way & that was the wasy I was staying. They didn't want to mess with her.

So Thank you so much for discover this site.
If you are lefty then you must join this club. Good Luck.
  186. Elizabeth
So very happy to discover your site. One of my grandaughters is lefthanded like me. We now both have pens for lefthanders, she has items for lefties for school, rulers, pencil sharpeners and pens, plus corrector pens. Will buy tape measure, clipboard type folder and scissors next purchase, plus fountain pen for myself. Had a cheque book for lefthanders from the bank, amusing to see the teller struggle with it when she had to stamp the cheque and tear it out. We have been doing that sort of struggle a lot in a world for right handers. I love your site.
  187. Andrew
I am a very dominant leftie. I do everything with my left hand. I can't do anything with my right hand at all. I am the only leftie in my family. There were only a few lefties throughout my schooling, not as many as there are today. My teachers tried to force me to write with my right hand but I always refused to comply so they gave up in the end and let me go leftie from then on, there was no equipment for lefties in those days so I always struggled as a left hended child in a right handed world. LEFTIES ROCK!! Thankyou for everything this site is doing for lefties everwhere.
  188. Laura
Left handedness runs in our family to the extent that at Thanksgiving we have a 'left handed table' and a right handed table' so we do not bump elbows!
  189. Vanessa
As someone who uses different hands for different things or switch preferences on different occasions and with writing sometimes I prefer to write left handed and sometimes right handed I tend to count myself as ambidextrous. I wear my watch on my right wrist and find I often accidently press the set button just because I bent my wrist. That can be annoying. This is my first visit to anything left handed. There's not as much stuff on the site as I expected. Mostly I buy stuff that can be used with either hand but I do have a pen for right handed use and a left handed one of the same type but in a different colour.
  190. deogratius
am very proud to be different with the right... mh but the islams seems to be bothered when i use my left hand for eating food or giving something to a person... well i use my left hand in doing anything and am sorry for my right hand because it seems that its there for show

also my left hand teaches me that we should think differently........

MY MOTHER ONCE TIED MY HAND FOR TWO MONTHS WHEN I WAS STILL YOUNG, BUT THE DAY SHE LET ME FREE..., I STARTED TO PICK A PIECE OF MEAT WITH MY LEFT HAND
and there is where she knew that i will never change..

    I LOVE BEING THAT WAY.
    1. Debbie
      Deogratius-

Your right hand isn't for show (that was funny though) it's for carrying things while your left hand does all the important stuff.
  191. Andrew
Why are you in the club? You're not a proper leftie if you don't write left handed.
    1. Steph
For godsake, leave her alone...she's 13. Other people on here had said they are left handed BUT don't use their left hand for everything.

am proud to accept how the creator made me to be a left hander and left legger, almost every activity I do I use left, no need for someone to get discouraged, and no body to keep on mocking us, I remember during my school day my fellow students used to mock me but I was not moved, and am a qualified telecoms engineer working sucessifully using my left hand and left leg.

I am almost 70 & it is only over the past 25 years that I have been able to find left handed lquipment so I have had to find my own way round the situation.

To give you some idea of how things have changed during my life, I was never stopped from using my left hand at school but when I went to college to become a teacher, I was not allowed to write on the blackboard with my left hand.

The small scissors were for my grandson who is left handed. I well understood his frustration with scissors as I can remember having the same problems at 5 years old. I have not used my dressmaking scissors yet.

I tried to join the club but the site could not be found

greetings everyone i am a 23 old lefty from Kuwait and in our culture it,s not polite to use your left hand and nether use it to eat which was really awkward and embarrassing for me to use it in front of relatives or friends because there is a saying "who eats with his left hands eats with the devil" and i cant use the spoon or the fork with my right hand.
it not easy to be left handed but i am glad to be one
    thanks.

Manny Pacquiao is obviously a proud left-handed boxer and so is Oscar de la Hoya(he plays golf left-handed just like Barrack Hussein Obama).

How a casual conversation about being left handed and not being able to use the office scissors got me to your site via my colleague!!! Have spent 50 years coping being a leftie in a rightie world. my husband always complains when i cut the bread with a left handed slant, the knives that i ruin, and then to find i can get left handed pruning shears!!! at last, ideas for the family for christmas presents. Now can you supply me with a left handed camera?

I am not left-handed but have always had a problem with cutting the nails on my right hand. A pair of left handed scissors has solved the problem.

Left-handed, but shoot a shotgun either handed, played guitar left handed the first year as a kid then switched to right handed when I found out the crapola selection of leftie guitars. Learned to play baseball and golf and to throw right handed because my glove and clubs were hand me downs. But I eat and write left handed, and can mouse with either. Lefty by birth, righty by force. :)

My grandson is doing a lot of mirror writing. If he starts off wrong it carries on. Do I need to correct him or will it sort itself out? He doesn't take well to criticism.
