Left handed birthday dates

My birthday dateWe have now completed the analysis of the birthday date responses and you can see the results here.

We get a lot of emails about Left Handers Day from Club Members saying that 13th August is their birthday! This got us thinking about whether there is any relationship between being left-handed and the time of year you are born and also whether that would be affected by whether you are in the Northern or Southern hemisphere. For example, if left-handers are more likely to be born in the summer months of June to August in the UK, should we expect more Australian left-handers to be born in those same months or in THEIR summer months of December to February?

We found one study where the researcher claimed a larger than expected number of left-handers were born in November, but only with a very small sample size (33). A larger study by our friend Chris McManus at the University of London (and author of the excellent book Right Hand, Left Hand) came to the conclusion that there was no seasonal trend in births of lefthanders. There is an article about Chris's study here, but he still only had 207 left-handers in total.

Another study concluded that slightly more left-handers than right-handers are born in the five months of March to July, all based on US data, but we cannot find anything looking at data across different countries.

Well, we have a much bigger sample of left-handers than any of these researchers and spread all round the world, so we thought we would do our own little study! Can you help us?

Please fill in the short from here to tell us where you are and your date of birth and we will do some analysis and see what we can come up with. [hilight color="FFFF00"]We need as many left-handers as possible to take part so please take a few seconds to help now[/hilight] - Just enter your details and click the "Send Email" button.

I’m the only one left handed in my family. Always have been left handed, although my parents tried to force me to use my right hand. They never understood why I was a lefty. Everyone that I’m related to is right handed.
  14. Stacia
My daughter is a lefty born on October 25 my uncle is born on October 25 and is left handed, my friend is a identical twin born on October 25 and is a lefty, my daughter came home today from work to tell me that 3 other people at her job share the same birthday October 25 and they are all kefties...very very weird!!!
  15. Jake Watson
my birthday is July 16th I share the same birthday with Gareth Bale, Moussa Dembele (two footballers) and also Will Ferrell. We are all left handed. Also I see a lot of footballers that have birthday within a few days around that time are also left footed such as Adam Johnson 14th July, Nabil Fekir 18th July, James Rodriguez 12th July, Gael Clichy 26th July, Luke Shaw 12th July, Stuart Downing 22nd July. Do you think this is just a big coincidence??
  16. Elzabeth
My grandfather wanted my Mom to switch me to a "righty", and she said "NO WAY!" Thankfully, I was born just on the edge of the discussion whether or not to switch (Baby Boomer) ... but until my oldest daughter was born, I had no one to share the travails of the left-handed person with! ;o)
  17. Helen
My mum was the only person in our family who wasn't left handed, however we were all different in how much we could use our left & right hands.

My mum (26 October) is very right handed. My brother (15 August) is very left handed. My Dad (29 January) & I (7 January) are left handed but use our right hands a lot more than my brother can, eg we use right handed scissors & struggle to use my brothers left handed scissors.
  18. Jessica
My cousin and I are the only two lefties in our family. We're both female born two years apart on the same day, June 29th.
  19. Candace Geiser
My sister and I were all lefties, but, my middle sister was forced to change in school. Our parents were both right handed.
My husband is left handed, too, but both of our daughters are righties.
His parent were both right handed, also.
  20. Eric Mundo
Everyone, but my dad and brother, in my family are lefties..
My birthday is 19th march 1997 & everyone born this date which is 3 people I know are lefties too
  21. Marie brook
I am a leftie. My mother and her 2 sisters were right handed, her 4 brothers all left handed.
My mother, father and sister were all right handed.
  22. Marie brook
I am a leftie. 2trMy mother and her two sisters were all right handed. Her four brothers were all left handed.
My mother, father and sister are all right handed, My husband and our two sons are all right handed.
  23. Ginger
I consider myself a lefty. I use my right hand for a lot of activities that I can not use my left hand for. I eat and write with my left hand and there are a lot of activities I use my right hand for. As a child I did not know the difference between being a left or right handed person. I have and always use which ever hand feels comfortable and easier to use. Thank you for this web site, I have learned a lot since I subscribed to it.
  24. Roberta Culbert-Costley
Tale was my granda was a lefty, but wasn't allowed to be, so he couldn't write. I am the only other one in my family...so far...
  25. Robin
My two grandfathers, my father, my foster-father, and my ex-husband are all lefties, and I, I am the oddball among them. I am also the only one one of seven siblings who is a lefty. ( I feel so alone.)
  26. Roland Reagan
In my family, I was born in October (Leftie) my brother was born in November (Rightie and my sister was born in June (Leftie). My opinion is that birth month has nothing to do with handedness.
  27. Rod Gaskell
I am one of three siblings, out of four, who are left handed. Neither of our parents were
    'lefties'!
We live in Australia and each of we left handers were born during the warmer months from November 4 through to January 5.
My daughter, who died, was right handed like her Mother but my son is also left handed.
  28. Kathy
I am the only person in my family who is truly a "lefty." My older brother was somewhat "ambidextrous" and could scribble a bit with his left hand but mainly was right handed. He could play tennis with both hands though. Ironically he was named "Dexter," before they knew about his ability to use his left hand (although limited). I tried to learn to play the guitar and even had a "left-handed guitar but it seemed daunting to any teacher to help me learn. When I first started school to learn my ABC's, the teachers always tried to get me to use my right hand. Despite their efforts, I was determined to use the hand that seemed more comfortable. Also an interesting fact is that my husband is left handed but also uses his right hand for eating and can play tennis with his right hand.
  29. W. Douglas Halsted, III
There have been and, in some cases, still are about 10 or 12 lefties* in three 20th and 21st century generations (about 30 people) of my family, and also one in my second wife's first family. I really enjoy your website. Good work! Keep it up!!! Doug
*Several of them are/were ambidextrous. Does that count as being lefty, too?
  30. W. Douglas Halsted, III
I'm very glad to contribute my information. This is a fun website. My mother and her maternal aunt (and that aunt's daughter and two of her grandchildren) were lefties, and my niece is also, as is her daughter.(But my sister and her husband are both righties.) So "leftyism" seems to run off and on in my family. In addition, one of my step-daughters is a lefty, too, but she's not related by blood, as are/were all the others I mentioned.
I enjoy your service to the left-handed community of the world. BRAVO! Keep it up!
    Doug
  31. Ann
I'm a proud lefty, but the only one on both sides of my family, I've looked back for 4 generations and nothing, not even a hint of another lefty. Could anyone tell if how rare that is?
  32. david hathaway
I have run into 25 people that were born on February 19th and all were left handed whether male or female. to many to be a coincidence.
  33. Judy
In my family, there seems to be a fair number of us left-handers. Both my parents were right-handed. My Brother is right-handed as well. I am an extreme lefty!! If I could not use my left hand...I would be pretty much helpless!!! At work, they even provided a left-handed keyboard for me!! My older Niece is left-handed, but can do a lot of things with her right hand. My younger Niece's daughter, my Great-Niece is left-handed. Their Dad/Grandfather & Mom/Grandmother were both right-handed. My younger Granddaughter is left-handed as well. Both her Mom (my Daughter) and Dad are right-handers.

I am proud of my left-handedness!!!
  34. Candace Geiser
I am left handed, as is my youngest sister. We were born in june and october. My parents were both right handed. My husband is a lefty born in april, and he is the only lefty in a family of six children.
  35. Carol Feltman
My dad, sister and daughter are also left-handed,as well as my uncle by marriage .my daughter in law and a co usin
  36. David Paasch
My wife & I are both left handed. Both our mothers are left handed.
We had twin sons, identical and one is left handed and the other right handed.
The doctor told us that is another sign of identical twins, they face each other and their writing hand is on the same side. When they grew up, the right handed son had all left handed kids, and the left handed one had all right handed kids. Our daughter, who is right handed married a left handed man and both her kids are left handed. (she says I am the only right one in my family, ha.
So we have had lots of fun with left handed. We have a fun sign: Everyone is born left handed, you become right handed when you first sin. We are still left handed. ha.
    David Paasch
  37. Carole Nowell
My dad was the first leftie, as far as I can find out from the family history, and I followed him. None of my immediate family are lefties.

One of my bosses was also left-handed and he used to say all lefties are sensitive and artistic - very true!!!
  38. Albert Parker
I seen a lot of studies trying to analyze us lefties. Clearly, this is a different and interesting approach.
  39. Christine
My father, myself and sister are lefties. My husband and 2 of my 3 children are also lefties. My youngest who writes with her right handed, has been beset with reading and writing difficulties and struggles with left and right directions,is there a link.
  40. shantel rush
I failed to mention that I was born in Leavenworth, Kansas and I have no know family members that were left handed. Although, there is rumors that school my father went to was know to make you switch to right hand if you used the left. So, there is a good possibility there was more left handers in my family and that they were made to switch as children to their right hand.
  41. Judith Webster
Having met Chris McManus and he having expressed astonishment at the level of left-handedness in my family I wonder if others have such a significant bias. My half sister and I are both left-handed. My husband is left=handed. two of my three children from my first marriage (to a right hander) are also left-handed
  42. Jim Nigrelli
Sorry. Forgot to add the dates.
Righties: Dad April, Brother June, Daughter June, Daughter October, Daughter November, Son May, GS June, GD May, GD July, GS January
Lefties: Mom December, Sister April, Sister November, Wife August, Me March, GS August
  43. Jim Nigrelli
My mom, 2 sisters, and I are left-handed. My older brother and dad are righties. My four children are all righties. and of my 5 grandchildren, (3 boys and 2 girls), one of my grandsons is a lefty and the remaining righties. At least the baseball glove won't go to waste!
  44. Lawrie Beales
When I did the original survey I neglected to add a comment that as well as me being left handed both my mother and one of my two sons is left handed.
Mum was born 4th August 1919 in UK and my son was born on 16th July 1980 in Australia. Strangely in the preferred months unlike me born in November :-(

    Cheers Lawrie
  45. eric
Born in California USA Feb 11, 1949, as breech birth. I am natural southpaw writing, brushing teethfine motor movements.
I used my right hand for athletics, pitching baseball, bowling, basketball etc. I kicked football with my left leg.
I found I could learn touse my opposite hand much easier than right handed friends. as far as I can learn I am theonly southpaw on either side of my family.
  46. Simona
I ´m leftie only one from whole familly included uncles, nephews, parents etc....from mother ´ s and father ´s side) and I was born in February in middle Europe. It would be fine to perform a small trial with hand-left people to find some similar typical features :-)
  47. Gail
I am 38, and a lefty from the UK. Born in July. I have 2 lefty parents (Mum 1950 Jan, Dad 1949 Jun).

I don't have a backhand in tennis, but am predominantly right handed for playing sports, and am definitely right eyed. My husband coincidently is a righty, but plays sports left handed!!

I have a right handed brother, and twin sons who are both right handed.
  48. Tugrul
I'm a lefty and I was born in Turkey February 29, 1972. 4 years is very interesting to celebrate a birthday. Greetings to everyone
  49. brent richards
my twin and my older brother are also left-handed.4
  50. Thiago
I'm born in August. My older brother, also a lefty, born in January.
  51. Cailin
I am one of 5 sisters and the only lefthander. None of my parents, grandparents, or great-grandparents were lefthanded; however, one grandfather was ambidexterous. I am a May baby--my sisters are March, 2 in June, and August. All of us were born in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Neither my children, nor my nieces and nephews are lefthanded. Same goes for my 2 great-nieces. It is a lonely experience for me!!

I love meeting other lefties & immediately notice which hand people use. It's so much fun to relate to another leftie.
  52. Rob McCubbin
I am not a leftie, but my Father was. Born 11 Dec 1905.
He was forced to write right-handed in school.
He was a keen cricketer, spin bowler, who could bowl with either hand! Kept the batsmen guessing.
His party trick was to write two letters at the same time... to two different people.
He was artistic as he could draw, paint and sculpt-in-plaster, but I'm afraid he didn't pass that on to me.
My niece Mairin is a leftie, and both my grandsons are lefties.
  53. Mairin McCubbin
    and no.......I wasn't born 1 of twins!!
I was a Xmas present from my dad to my mum,&, 9 months later ,in the spring in the southern hemisphere) I was born!! (2 weeks prem apparently)
My parents & sister are NOT left handed ,
but my dads brother was a lefty.
& my 1st cousin on my mums side is & a few others on her side too!many on the arty farty McCubbin side are apparently!
cheers & good luck with the info you gather, will be interesting to hear what you find?
  54. Kim
I'm a lefty that has her extreme days born in late June. I have an Uncle on my mother's side born mid Feb (12years older) and a 2nd cousin born in Aug (25 years older). Thank goodness for my Uncle or may never have been able to tie my shoes. :)

I have a friend who is the middle child of seven. She is the only lefty born in Nov. She has three kids and only get daughter is a lefty born in April.
  55. Cassi Artun
I'm a leftie born in Canada. I reside in Toronto (yes as in Mayor Rob Ford so please no crack jokes!)
I am from a large family - six children - and I am the only leftie. Both my parents have large families as well - a combined total of 24 siblings from each side. Only one uncle, my mother's brother, is left handed. None of my sons are LH and neither are my three grandchildren. Of my fifteen nieces and nephews, only one is LH. Coincidentally, my birthday is in November so for once, according to your survey, I am actually in a majority!!
  56. Christina B.
My Birthday is 8-26-1961 and I am left-handed.
Neither of my parents are left-handed but...
My paternal Grandmother was left-handed and her
    Birthday was 2-10-1910.
We are all from the USA.
  57. Diana
I am in the only one in my family that is a lefty. It was a challenge for my family because everything that I did seemed right to me but it was backwards to them. In elementary school they attempted to switch me to be a "righty" until my father put a stop to their attempts. I was born on April 9, 1959 in the state of Missouri, USA, and it snowed the day I was born.
  58. Paula
I was born on April 1st. Yes, that's right: I AM AN APRIL FOOL! But, besides being a "lefty", I also pride myself that I was born on Easter Sunday - which hasn't occurred on my birthday since! : O I think it will happen again in a few years. Anyway, neither of my parents were left-handed, but I have a sister that is left-handed, and another brother & sister that weren't. My first grade teacher (no public school kindergarten then) would place a pencil in my right hand, and I would then place it back in my left. I also had other elementary teachers who would have me get up and "do" things around the classroom: open/shut doors; cut paper with scissors; etc. just to show how the world was made for "righties". Even in college, there were still half-desks that were made for "righties".
  59. Lord Swann
How on Earth can a date have any bearing whatsoever on which hand you mainly use? Kindly stop this nonsense at once or I may have to change which hand I favour just to distance myself from this folly.
  60. Randy
I'm all left-handed, born June 1, 1953. Marylin Monroe and I share that date and she was left-handed, I understand. My son, Bryce, born Jun 26,1992 is also left-handed. My wife is right-handed. Only thing that bothers me is when we go out to eat and I have to sit on my side. Son always sits next to his mom and she needs to slide in a booth first or get elbowed. We used to always have to tell him to pull in his wing to keep from hitting her, until she moved to the inside. They also always put the water on the wrong side..
  61. Catarina
I'm the only left-handed person in my closest family but I had a twin brother.
  62. Andrew
I am very left handed. My birthday is 19 January 1968. My wife and all our children are left handed. Dates of Birth as follows: Wife 5 March 1967, Eldest Son 12 June 1987 Daughter 31 August 1990, youngest son 13 August 1992. We also have 6 grandchildren. 4 of them are left handed. Their birthdays are: 29 March 2007, 25 July 2008, 17 September 2009 and 30 November 2010. The children's partners are varied handedness. Eldest son's' wife is right handed. Daughters husband is left handed , other son's wife is left handed. Strangely they are the couple with the right handed children
    1. Lynn green
My birthday is also 19th January and am completely left handed too!
  63. Tracey Taylor-Petsivas
I was born 17 October in UK in the 1960's to right handed parents. In fact, the only other leftie in my family was my maternal grandfather, who told me the horrific story of being rapped across the knuckles at school for writing with his left hand !! So he learned to use his right hand instead. In his 40's he fractured his right wrist and it was in plaster, that was when he reverted back to writing with his left hand, although as he had never developed it, his writing was like a child's !!
  64. Nicki
I've just registered my details but my dad was also left handed, he was born on 3rd January in the 1930s. I'm not aware of anyone else in my family who is left handed. One of my colleagues is left handed, her birthday is at the end of May. We're all from the UK.
  65. Elizabeth
I was born in July, my maternal grandfather was left handed, none of my sisters nor cousins is left handed. My teacher in elementary school used to spank my left hand when I write, thank goodness my mother intervened, told my teacher not to force me to write with the right hand.
  66. Angela
I was born on 21 July in England in the 1960s, and as a girl was the only leftie in the family - although my mother once told me that I started by using my right hand but then switched to my left hand when I started at school. I didn't realise that the fact that I'm a "summer baby" could be linked to the fact that I'm left handed. Just shows how special us lefties are!
  67. Elizabeth Mooney
My brother born 28.1.64 is left handed as well as me, and is his son born 9.11.94 though his mother is not. Both our parents are not. Father 16.1.17 and mother 6.3.20.
My mother's brother born 5.5.16 and his daughter born 23.2.51 both left handed though not my aunt by marriage born 1.2.15.
Is there any research or theories about children born of older parents being more likely to be left handed?
This does seem to be the case for our family.
  68. Gail DeBeck
I was born on September 15, 1950, in a family of four children. Two of us are lefties. My oldest brother was right handed as is my sister. My younger brother and I are the lefties. He was born on February 4, 1953. I have two grandsons, the oldest is a leftie, born in March. My grandmother was the leftie. they made her write with her right hand. She was my mother's mother. Both of my parents were right handed. I live in Maine.
  69. Robert Boyer
Enjoy your email very much. Find a lot of good tips. I seem to find more and more people who are left handed. these days. I remember way back in grade school many teachers would try to make you do things with righr hand. If you didn't you would get hands smacked with a ruler. I was lucky it never happened to me.
  70. Margie
I'm the only lefty in my immediate family. My husband is the only lefty in his immediate family. We have 3 children -- all right-handed! I checked the percentage of two lefties having lefty children -- 42% was listed back in 1985.

Has there ever been a study or survey re: snow shoveling handedness?

I also realized that my camera favors right-handed people. Are there any digital cameras out there with the buttons on the left and the lens on the right?
  71. David Jr.
I am left handed, my birthday is Feb 8th. I was born in the U.S.A. On my father's side of the family my Uncle and Aunt are LH. I have a half-sister on my dad's side that's LH. No LH on my Mother's side of the family that I know.
  72. Ernie White
    I was born 12/24/1942 at 8:40 p.m.
I was born after the world series of 1942. My father said the pitcher for our home team the St. Louis Cardinals won the game. He was a left handed pitcher. His name was Ernie White.
He was not a true left hander. Everything else he did was right handed.
I myself am a true Left Hander. I am the only one in my family who is Left handed...

    Ernie White
  73. Tina Anderson
My mother, born 6FEB1920, only one of 9 siblings left handed. She was allowed to be left handed. My father, born 18JULY1919, may have been left handed but not allowed in school. Of my three siblings and myself: I am left handed, born 30MARCH1951, as are my brother, born 15JULY1949, and my younger sister, born 8MAY1953. Our oldest sister is right handed. My daughter is left handed, born 7APRIL1976, married to a right hander, with a right handed 3year old. We thought at first my grandson would be a lefty but not happening. He loves to colour, paint, and draw right handed, if you hand anything to his left hand he will take it and switch to his right hand.
Like other lefties I notice when people are left handed. There are so many unique qualities to being left handed, right brain thinking for example.
  74. Hope Konrady
My dad was lefthanded, 5-11-1924, and was punished at school for using his left hand. He persevered and they allowed him to use his left hand. Two of my three children are lefthanded. Daughter 11-23-1983 and Son 8-21-1989. Although my dad and myself do all things with our left hand, my children only write with their left hand.
  75. Rod
I'm left handed, born in Australia in November. My Dad was also left handed but born in May. No other left handers in my family.

Despite the minor daily inconveniences we all experience, I love being left handed.

I have also wondered about any connection between being left handed and gay. I'm in that category and know that a large proportion of gay people are left handed. That's not to say that all left handers are gay.
  76. Shelly G.
I am the only one in my family to be left-handed. My great-grandmother was a Campbell, and there were a great many Campbells who were left-handed.

I am Left-Handed at birth but changed in school, and retain most of my Left-hand abilities, but write with my right hand. 2 of my children are LH and never were hanged, Birthdates 5-6-64 son, and 9-13-68, daughter. Two of my Grand children are Left Handed, both boys, Dec 8, 1987 and Dec 14, 1991.

My father was right handed born Dec 10, 1919, My mother was Left Handed, born May 6, 1924. One brother of mine is Left handed, born Nov 16, 1951. I "think" that my natural brother from my mother and real father was also left handed, but am not sure, cause he might have been changed in school as I was and doesn't exhibit LFH tendencies. He was born Dec 30, 1947.
  78. James S.
I was born July 25th 1963 and another factor to consider is the age of the parents and their "handed-ness". My parents were in their 30's when I was conceived and my father was a lefty but was trained in to right handed behavior. I am the 6th of 6 kids and the only lefty. hmmm.
  79. Sarah
Both my grandfathers were left handed; on born in November, the other in December. My older female cousin is left handed and born in March. Neither of my parents are left handed or anyone else in my family. I like being left handed!
  80. Rachel
Well, I was born on 13th August and am left handed. I had no idea it was so significant! When I was growing up, I had an elderly neighbour who shared my birthday and was also naturally left handed but had been forced to use her right hand when learning to write, sew etc.
  81. Mehdi
Neither of my family nor the people in near and far relationship to me has any lefties. but I am left handed and left foot too.
I am teakowando player but in football I can play with both of my foots as the same.

Wife is a righty, both kids are blonde like her, but lefties like me. From my immediate family, mother is a leftie and three boys out of six kids are lefties. My father-in-law was a leftie, but was forced to learn how to write right-handed in the 1930's.
  89. Danielle
My mother is a leftie born Nov 6th and my father is right handed born Dec 31st. They had 3children, 2 girls and one boy. My sister (Aug 24th) and I (Aug 14th) are left handed while my brother (June 2nd ) is right handed.

    Any takes on that?
  90. David
I have two sons that are left handed, both born in the United States. Joshua was born 9/30/84 and does some things lefty and some righty, and is married to a lefty (Elizabeth) born 9/12/85. Jacob was born 4/17/89 and does everything left handed except throw a Frisbee. My grandfather was left handed and was born 1/22/02.

  96. Patricia Rodgers
I am left handed and so is my eldest daughter - whose husband is also left handed. Their daughter is right handed. No one else in my immediate family is left handed and I don't know of any ancestors who were either. It will be interesting if it turns out to be due to random selection.
  97. Derek
I'm LH born in England 26/08/1941 my son is LH born in England 14/08/1966 but my daughter born May 1969 is right handed

This is amazing. I am left handed and my birthday is the 13th august. Left handers day which I have always thought was awesome. Can't wait to find out how many of us there are....AMAZING... My 1st born son is also left handed and he's 13/05/2008...
  101. Marthese
Hi there, im from the small island of Malta in the Mediterranean. Im 40 and a leftie and there s not much of them in my family, unfortunately. From my knowledge, there had been my great grandfather, one of his kids (female) and then she had one of her children (male) who was born leftie, there's one of my cousins (male) and myself (female). These persons are all from my father's side of family. Then my nephew came out to be a leftie too and my daughter uses both hands to draw but she writes with her right hand. Hope that will help for your study. Good luck and thanks for the news you share with us lefties :)
  102. Cindy
Neither the generation before me nor the one after me has any lefties besides myself. I so wanted left handed grandchildren but that was not to be. What are the chances of having left handed great grandchildren? Have studies been done on how far the characteristic has been passed down?
  103. Jim Gillespie
My uncle Jim was also left handed as is my older brother and his oldest son. My youngest daughter is also a lefty. We were all born in Detroit and Dearborn, Michigan. There must be something in the water? Jim G.
  104. Jonathan Atkinson
I am LH and was born 18/5/43 in England. The following are or were (or would have been if allowed) LH in my family:
    My wife, born 28/9/47 in England;
    My sister, born 20/2/54 in England;
    My mother-in-law, born 8/3/13 in England;
    My aunt, born 19/4/23 in England;
My grandmother, born 18/5/1888 in England of Jewish parents who had recently migrated from Italy.

There is an obvious bias towards the first half ofthe year in this sample, but I think there is a similar bias among the RH members of the family as well.
  105. Beth MacKeage
My son and granddaughter were also born in October, but both of them are right-handed.
    1. Beth MacKeage
I should also mention that one of my grandsons is left handed; he was born in February. He was born in Edmonton, Alberta, whereas I was born in Toronto.
  106. Val Banton
I just sent my birthdate, but you can add my dad - born in England, 8th September 1931. He is left handed, but was forced to use the right at school. Does everything but write with left hand!
  107. Bruce
I once worked in a department as a high voltage test technician, testing power transformers and tap changers along with about ten or twelve other people. Half of them were named "John" and more than half were left handed, although not everyone who was left handed was named John nor everyone who was named John was left handed.
  108. Lucia
    My birthday is October 29th.
I have one child and he is right handed.
  109. Karen
I have 3 sons all born in the US. Twins born 11/25/83, one is left handed, the other right handed. Youngest son born 8/21/87 is also left handed. My husband is right handed.
I think it is interesting that the twins also have a mirror image of their lense prescriptions for their eye glasses/contact lenses, the same prescription but for the opposite eye. The optometrist always commented on it when they were younger and I took them together to the Dr.
  110. jesse
my sister is left handed all other of the family is right handed i have 6 kids and my oldest is left-handed and oneof my twin boys is left-handed non-identical
  111. Kelly Lourick
My Dad is also a lefty his birthday is in February and my son is a lefty as well, his birthday is in June.
  112. Rick
I am lefthanded, and always notice when someone else is. My brother is lefthanded. I have 2 nephews who are natural lefthanders (school has affected that, and they are both "young"...18 and 23). Have a lefthanded first cousin on my mom's side of the family. Unsure about any other lefthanders in the family.
  113. Heidi
I am the eldest one of three children. My mum is also left handed and so is my younger brother. I have three daughters, the youngest is 15 months. The older two are right handed, the younger has yet to show a preference. I hope she will be a leftie like me.
  114. JANE
I'm the same as Laura below, a March 4th person, and a leftie.
    1. JANE
Forgot to add, also born in Wales.
  115. Paula Hayes
    My dad was a lefty - 05.04.1950
    I'm a lefty 13.06.1974
2 out of my 6 children are also lefties
    15.12.95

Out of five sisters, three are left handed (I am one of them) but both parents were right handed. Birthdays are 1/17, 7/7 and 12/20.

I have two children and one is left handed and the other is right handed. My son's birthday is 12/13.
  117. Laura
I have 4 children, 2 from my first marriage and 2 from my second. The older 2 are right handed. The younger 2 are non-identical twin girls, born 18/02/09. One is left handed, one is right handed.

Both husbands were right handed, I'm left handed, my birthday is 4th March (not telling you which year!)
    1. Laura
For the benefit of Lewis Harper, I was born in Wales! Though I notice he didn't tell us where he's from :-)
  118. Myk Baker
I haven't commented in a while so thought this was as good a time as ever!
I don't seem to fit into any of the study categories mentioned and neither does my wife!
On another note, there has been the ongoing debate about leftism being nature or nurture, well we have two children now who are both right handed, we haven't been biased either way, we have allowed our children to decide for themselves, although I'm sure they have had some 'guidance' at school! So it would lead me to believe that if two left handed parents bring up two right handed children then this would edge toward the idea that handedness is a genetic trait the same as hair colour or sexuality....
I'll leave that little bomb shell and let the comments begin :)
  119. Kenneth
I'm the only Left handed in my family and I think I am really a right handed but nobody forced to be left so I trained myself to be left until now.

I remember my pre elementary teacher asking me, which hand are you?
I don't know what to answer and I saw my book which the pages starts from left then goes to right. Then I told my teacher, I'm left handed! Hahaha silly me

I thought left was first so I choose left as my handedness
  120. Ian
I have a brother who is five years older than me who is also left-handed (born 23/05/56). Although we went to the same schools in the early / mid '60's in Stoke, he was caned and had his left hand tied to try to force him to be a 'normal' right-hander - not something that I had to endure in the same classrooms just five years later.
  121. Theresa
I have filled my data in born January 1959. No immediate family but an aunt and 2nd cousin were lefties, funny enough with the same name. Not sure when they were born only in the 40's. Find some gaming consel a problem because buttons are for right handed people. Have got 3 sons none left handed. Love been different. Aways notice lefties.
  122. Geoffrey
At junior school teachers tried to make me write with my right hand but i broke my right arm on the playing field, being in a plaster cast for two months put an end to that.
  123. Alan Dean
As a Yorkshireman I'm always looking for a bargain, and whenever I check into a hotel or restaurant, or store, and immediately notice if the receptionist is Left Handed (note the capitals), I ask for the Left Handed discount or upgrade. You may be surprised how often it works.
    Try it? nothing to lose
    Alan
  124. Colin Osborne
My birthday is March 22nd 1947. My father was a leftie, but, like Janet's aunt from Canada, my father was also hit with a ruler if caught writing left handed. My, my, how things have changed, now they use a taser!!! :)).
My wife, now passed away, was right handed but one of my two sons is a leftie, and his was the easier birth and he is more laid back, the same as me!
One other point, I love drawing and painting, my leftie son is an actor as is his partner who is also a leftie, both are good at drawing, coincidence? However, their son appears to be right-handed, he's 3 years old, and we thought that he would have been left-handed because of the gene thing! Hmmm, perhaps they should use a ruler on him!!!

    Colin, UK (Wales)
  125. Jennifer Freeland
I have 3 children & am married to right-hander. My 2 sons are lefties, my daughter like her father. Jason Freeland bn. 8-22-77.....Jimmy Freeland bn. 12-16-85 can be added to your list as well as myself. THANX
  126. Deborah

    Deb
  127. Donna Bruce
I had a left handed Great Aunt and have two left handed nephews - all from different strands of the family. My nephews' birthdays are in November and January.
  128. Helen

  129. Sven
    Addition :
Both my kids are lefties. Son born Aug 21, 1998, daughter born April 9, 2001.

I am the only one, majority LH in our family. My older brother (the one i followed) is LH when he eats, but RH when he writes.Everything else he does is RH.
  131. Lucy
My birthday is August 13th! My aunt is left-handed & an August baby (02.08.1976) and so is my paternal grandfather (03.08.1940). I'm interested in what you find out about this.
  132. Julia
I am born on 4/4/61 and am left handed. My partner born on 13/4/57 is also left handed. I have 2 good friends one born 3/4/62 and one born 16/4/60 who are also left handed, so I wonder if in the UK more left handers are born in the spring?
  133. Darron Bowler
My mum is a twin her older brother is a leftie (born October) My sisters are twins older one is a leftie (born August) My wife is a twin older brother a leftie (born May). So in all 3 cases of the twins the one born first is left handed, strange but true.
  134. Howard
Hi all, I'm from Australia. Back in the 1970's when I would purchase cricket books for the summer season, it would have the names of the cricketers and their part in the team; be it batter, bowler, etc.
I am a July birth. I noticed that of the left handers in the team back then, 99% were born in July. My uncle on my father's side and my cousin who are left handed were born in July. That has always intrigued me. When I see a fellow left hander I always try to find their birth month just to see if they are of July birth. Still intrigues me and I am still searching.
  135. Yvonne
I am the only leftie in my family and I always notice anyone who else is left handed. I get a hard time at work being a leftie, so many things in the office environment are all set up for right handed people. I have a left handed can opener and my partner who is right handed just finds it too difficult to use ( it actually can be used by a left or right handed person). Right handed people just wouldn't be able to cope in a left handed world, I think we are very special that we all survive is this very much right handed world.
  136. Esmeralda
I just filled out the form but would like to add my left handed mother DOB is Jan. 30, 1962, and my older left handed sister DOB Feb. 4,1971, only my younger sister is right handed. My mother was the only left handed out of 6 siblings, and we are three sisters with 2 of us being left handed.
  137. Lewis Harper
I am the only LH in my family, but 2 of my Sisters Boys are LH.

Just a thought ; Might have been nice to have had all those who commented of which Country they are from. Could not see a problem with that.
    Regards,
    Lewis.
  138. Linda
Not only am I a Lefty but I have 1 sister and 2 brothers that are left handed. My sisters birthday is Oct. 8, 1953, first brother born March 29, 1946, and second brother born Oct.11, 1956. Not only that we have 4 right handed other brothers. my birthday is Aug. 21, 1947. At school in first grade I had to stand in front of the class at the blackboard until I wrote with my right hand but that made me more determined not to, also sitting at my desk while righting left handed SMACK Id get it with the ruler. Needless to say I'm still a lefty. Of course I didn't pass first grade, but the second time around I had a wonderful teacher.
  139. margaret sorrenti
my birthday is august 16, no one in immediate family is lefthanded,,I also love being left handed. I have a cousin that is left handed and to my knowledge we are the only 2 lefties in the family.
  140. Karen
I was born December 24, 1981. My mom is also a lefty and she is born November 8, 1952. We think that my grandmother was left handed as well but was forced to write with her right hand. Her hand writting is not very good as a result. Her birthday is July 5, 1924. I am one of 4 girls and I am the only one that is left handed. My mom is 1 of 10 and I am pretty sure that at least one of my aunts is left handed as well. Maybe one of my uncles.

I too always notice when people are lefties, especially celebrities in movies!

I am also a geologist and there are a lot of lefties that are geologists!
  141. susan
My younger sister who passed away was left handed..her birthday was November 12, 1959. My birthday is August 14, 1957. We don't know if anyone on my Mom's side was left handed as she was adopted. We are the only family members that I know of that are left handed.
  142. Patricia A Meredith
Please add these two to your survey:

My boss is also left handed - he was born in the United States - birthdate: 18 Oct 1954.
My daughter is left handed - she was born in the United States - birthdate: 24 Feb 1985.
My boyfriend is left handed - he was born in Canada - birthday: 6 July 1962.
His brother is left handed - he was born in Canada - birthday: 9 January 1956.
His brother's wife is left handed - she was born in Canada - birthday: June 1949.

My father was left handed - he was born in the United States - birthday June (he passed away 30 years ago and I've forgotten the date and year).

I am so left handed - the only thing I could do right handed was dial a telephone! Most people don't remember when telephones had rotary dials!
  143. Heidi
My birthday is September 22, 1968. I am a total lefty! Can't turn a door knob in the right direction with my right hand! My mother, one sister, grandpa, my youngest son, two nephews, and one niece are also lefties..
    I LOVE being left handed!
  144. Michele Dickson
My birthday is August 3rd and my husband's is April 5th. We are the only ones in our families going back several generations including Aunt's, Uncles, cousins, etc. I went to Catholic school and the nuns did try and change my writing habits but it did not work. I only know how to be a lefty and I am happy this way.
  145. Frank Curtis
I am left handed (of Course). My birthday is July 31 1951 and I was born in the Northern hemisphere.
  146. Doris
I was born on Nov. 13th...a lefty month. My mother was left-handed and born Aug. 13.
I also went to a catholic school and they tried to switch me to the right. My father went down and told them absolutely not! I notice lefties all the time, like our last three presidents.. I am proud to be a lefty!! and we are the only ones in our right minds!
  147. Hewlett
my family has one - and only one - leftie in each generation. I'm a lefthander, as is my third son. Also, I have a grandson who shares our lefthandedness. I believe the lefthandedness comes from my father's side, as I had a first cousin who was lefthanded, and he had one son who is. On the other hand, my mother had an ambidextrous brother, and he always said it was because his teachers would smack his hand with a ruler when he wrote with the "wrong" hand. He tried to become a rightie but never could or would give up using the left and swithed back and forth between them with ease.
  148. Stephen
I find myself working with a lot of lefthanded carpenters. On a restoration project, four of us lined up to sign our security passes and I noticed that we all stood sideways and signed in lefty!
  149. Janet
Forgot to add my birthday is November 8th, 1961

I also do everything left handed..it feels weird to even think of doing something with my right hand
  150. Monica
My husband is a lefty. Born in the U.S. on December 4, 1978. My Aunt and cousin are lefty. Both born in U.S. My Aunt's birthday is January 20, year unknown, but she's in her late forties early fifties. My cousin (female) was born September 2, 1984. I have two other aunts and an uncle who are also left handed, but do not know birthdays or year born.
  151. Janet
I also notice immediately if people are left handed..I guess because we are special!

No one in my immediate family is/was left handed but I had an aunt who used to get hit with a ruler for writing with her left hand. she became ambidexterous (not sure of spelling) and could write with both hands and you couldn't tell the difference.

My sister and my writing is really similar but she is right handed.

Personally, except for the odd thing, that is obviously for right handers (notebooks with coils!) I love being different and being left handed!

    Janet in Canada
    1. Michael Mills
Janet My first grade teacher kept taking pencil out my LEFT hand and putting it in my right till my mother found out and told her that I'm a southpaw and that's the way it is.
    2. Cindy
I agree. Being left-handed is about the only thing special about me. I do notice all lefties at first glance. It's sort of like being in a special club.
    3. Tracey Taylor-Petsivas
I too always notice straightaway if people are left handed. Right handed people never notice, or maybe they simply do not consider it important.
  152. Lawrie Beales
I was born in UK in november but I live in Australia perhaps I needed to be here where statistically my birthday would be left preferred ??
  153. nicolaas kuiper
I am the only member of our family being a lefty (jan 11 1946) I am eldest son a have another brother and sister, does the birth order make a difference to lefty or righty.????
  154. Berna
My birthday is August 12th. I am the only person in my immediate family that is left handed. My mother told me that she encouraged me as a small child to take things with my left hand! I always notice on TV or if someone is writing if they are left handed. I went to 12 years of Catholic school but was never made to switch to being right handed. My mom's brother was left handed but grew up in the era where they tried to make people switch from left to right handed. I do just about everything left handed. I think it's kind of cool being a "lefty".
    1. John P
I had my education beaten into me by the Irish Christian Brothers, a Catholic teaching order. Luckily, when I was 8 years old (1962), I had a lay teacher who was also left-handed (a real rarity in those days) who encouraged me to remain left-handed and helped me with my "disability" (such as teaching me to tick answers using my right hand rather than drawing attention to myself by ticking the "wrong" way). BIG thanks to Mr. Curran!
I'm the only leftie in the family, but it's early days yet with my grandchildren. At what age does handedness develop? My sister (who knows EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING (she thinks) insists that it's only after about 2 or 3 years - and as her son is a doctor, she MUST be correct...).
My big leftie problem? The availability of golf equipment in-store. I bought a custom-built driver 2 years ago, went to collect it - and found that they had produced a right-handed version! Typical!
      I'm a St. Swithin's Day baby (15th July 1954) fyi.
  155. Gail Quinn
I've always considered myself doubly special and my family encourage me to think so! Not only was I born on Christmas Day, but I am also privileged to be left-handed.
My Dad is also left-handed, his birthday is 19/2/1923, and now, after many years we finally have another special person. My second youngest granddaughter is proving to be left-handed also. Her birthday is 4/1/2011.
  156. Grace Bartilucci
My birthday is March 19th and I am the only person in my nuclear and extended family that IS left handed. Luckily, I had very intelligent parents who made sure everyone knew not to NOT to try and change me to a rightie. And I went to a Catholic school in the 60s/70s.
  157. jodi sanson
yes I'm left handed. my granddad an so was my dad (june 3, 1921) my grandson is also left handed so it seems to be one in each gendration. love this site.

I and my elder sister were both born in late June and are lefties, but the other two siblings were born in October/November and aren't. Neither is anyone else in the immediate family.
On a similar topic, but one you may have covered in the past, I find careers and left-handedness seem to go together. For instance, I'm a retired journalist. We seemed to have a greater than average percentage of lefties in the newsroom at my papers, but hardly any in the printing area. And I needn't point out the number of left-handed actors you see on the screen. Are we lefties more creative?

My Birthday is the 13th August 1981! I found out on my last birthday that this is International Left Handers Day, because someone posted it on Facebook. My daughter is left handed. Her birthday is 28th Sept. 2009. My Grandfather was born on the 27th Sept. 1924. He is left handed but was forced to use his right hand at school. I also have two uncles who are lefties.

I just submitted my data but wanted to point out an interesting fact with my family. I am left handed and was born on the 3rd of April and my Poppy (dad's father) is also left handed he was born on the 5th of April. On my dad's side of the family we are the only two left handers, but the interesting thing is that he was born in Germany but I was born in Australia. On my mum's side of the family my Nana (her mother) was born left handed, but 'corrected' as they did at the time, she was also born in Australia in June. So the months of April - June seem to be the left handed months in my family. Which is very interesting considering that I have around 6 relatives born in July who all are right handed.

My birthday is September 1st, and I’ve added my data. I would also like to explain that, although I’m the only leftie in my family, my Mum tells me that her younger sister, born 19th September used to be left-handed but was forced to use her right hand. I, too, was forced by a headmistress when I was at primary school to write using my non-dominant hand, but I rebelled (!) which is very uncharacteristic for me, and insisted upon passing the pencil back to my left hand, because as far as I was concerned, the headmistress might as well have been asking me to stand on my head!

And just as a matter of interest, I share my birthday with Barry Gibb of Bee Gees fame, who I believe is also left-handed!

My dad's bd was Feb 7, 27 and he was left handed (original that was made to learn to right handed). Mine is May 6, 66. I don't know if my dad's parents or sister were left handed. But I can tell you this. My dad had 3 girls. My aunt (his sister) had 3 boys. I am the middle child and have blue eyes and am left handed. My aunts middle son has blue eyes and is left handed. :)

When I was born, I quickly comforted myself within a minute of birth, by sucking on my left index finger. Noticing this, the Dr. removed my finger and found a callous on my finger. He told my parents right then that I was left-handed and to never let a teacher or anyone else try to change that. I'm the only lefty in my family, including all my 1st cousins! I can do many things with my right hand, which is nice in many ways. Like when I do cake decorating; left hand gets tired, I switch to the right. Growing up with right-handed scissors, school desk, notebook/binders, were the things that bothered me the most. Now it's knives. Basically, I'm quite adaptable, which I find most of "us" are. Not so for the wrong-handed people (righties).

Hi, I'm born on the 23rd of April 1990. I've noticed a few others here as well! Both my parents are right handed and I'm left handed though over the years I've trained my brain to be ambidextrous with certain things like my dad. Can't remember, but I think one of my auntie's and her children are left handed as well and they were all born in march.
  165. jackie
most of my family are ciotogs/lefties here is a few dates to help

    my father 12/ feb
    my birthday 3/ dec

    my uncle 7/ april
    my cousin 21/ may
  166. Roz Rathbone
I'm from a leftie family - both parents, brother and sister, one of my daughters and myself. We disprove the March to July birthday theory as out of the six of us only one was born within those months!
  167. Marie Reynolds
My father in law has the same birthdate as me, October 19th and he is also a leftie
  168. Brenda
My birthday is January and so is my sister's. We are both left handed. My mother was also left handed and born in January. My father was born in November, brother in May, my two sons in April and December all left handed and also my two grandsons. One born April and the other in August. My dad's two brothers were lefties. One born in June and one in September so we near enough cover every month.
  169. Irene Hall
In my family of 6 we have 3 left handed. That makes 50%.
  170. cathi easter
My birthday is 17th March 1967, my eldest daughter's is 23rd April 1998 and my youngest's is 3rd July 200 - we're all left-handed. My dad's another leftie, his birthday is 19th May 1933. We seem to have a lot of left-handers in the family - at least 25% of us !!
  171. Cristina
Aside from mine (already submitted), my lefty husband is 24/6/60 and my lefty daughter is 15/5/93. We're in the US.
  172. Scott E Conlan
I am partially deaf. What, if any, are challenges to left handed "signers (ASL)"? And to their signing companions?
  173. Marilyn
I was born on 25th June 1959 and am the only one in my family of 4 to be left handed. I have a female cousin born in April 1955 from a family of 3 who is also left handed. We are to my knowledge the only 2 lefties in our family. Our fathers were brothers. My mum said once that she thought that my dad should have been left handed but was brought up when a lot of children were told to only use their right hand.
  174. Patricia
My birthday is July 23. I have a sister who is 16 months younger than I and she is also left-handed. Her birthday is December 4. I have another sister and a brother...both are right-handed and both of my parents are right-handed.

We have no history of anyone in our family being left-handed. We are the only two. My sons and my nephews are all right-handed...as are my five grandchildren.

Just think it's odd that my sister and I who are so close in age both ended up being lefties.
  175. Jim
Older sister is a leftie, born June 20th and my oldest child is a leftie born Oct. 11th
  176. Les Mitchell
    Hi,
I am probably one of the strange left handers.
I do everything left-handed - except write - I don't recall ever being 'forced' to do so. Shocking hand writing though.
Strangely, having written something that I wish to underline, I have to put down the pen/pencil to pick up the 'ruler (in my right) and underline with my left. Kick/throw a ball, bat, fire a rifle, use tools - all with my left side. Trying to do anything with my right, other than write is absolutely foreign to me. Only relative I am aware of with left tendencies is my second son (ambidextrous) who was born on 31 May 1965 in Darwin Australia. As a cricketer he bowls left and bats left or right - confusing for the opposition!!!
  177. Marion
I would be interested in the ratio of population
Numbers over the last 70 years to left/right
Does it increase if children are
allowed to be left handed as I was born in 1950
  178. LVB
Both my children (boy and a girl) have August birthdays and both are left handed. No-one else in the family (on either side) is left handed.
  179. Norma
There are a number of left-handers besides myself in my family. My father was left-handed, born August 9, 1917. One of two sons is left-handed, born October 5, 1969. None of my grandchildren are completely left-handed, but two of four do sports and other physical activities left-handed but write right-handed: a girl born July 24,2004 who has one left-handed parent, and a boy born May 7, 2006 with two right-handed parents. In addition, my husband and his twin sister are both left-handed, born March 15, 1943. All are born in the United States, but in very different climates, from Florida to Minnesota.
  180. Gareth
I am one of twins born 2 months premature so my birthday should have been November. I am the only left hander in my family.
  181. Linda
My birthday is 14/04/1954. I am from the United States and was born in Pennsylvania.
  182. Meredith
Love this article! My birthday is also August 13th, and both my mother and I are lefties! Submitted my data, looking forward to the results.
    1. Mandy
      So exciting I'm 13aug too. X
  183. Julie Jackson
My birthday is June 15th. All three of my children are left-handed.
    Birthdays are 10/06/87
    24/10/94
    12/04/97

so we cover the year pretty well!
  184. TM
Like the idea of the survey, but for the UK born it would have been interesting to split it further into Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales to see if there is a pattern, within the UK.
  185. Diane Lawrence
I completed the form but wanted to add my left-handed father was born January 2, 1925. I am completely 100% left handed. Both of us born in Massachusetts, USA.
  186. Edith Frank
I am the only left handed person in the family. My sons and grandsons are right handed. However my daughter in law is a lefty. She was born in the USA on January 27, 1959. and although my husband and I both celebrate our birthdays on September 13, (different years, different country) he is right handed. But since he was born in Europe, at least we eat the same way!!!!
  187. Alison
I am the only left hander in my family and I have the same birthday (2 years apart) as a right handed sibling. Both born in Scotland. I guess that upsets a lot of theories!
I am unable to send the data as I got an error - Missing required field 'Country of Birth' I can't fill that field in as it is not visible to me.
  188. Crystal
My brother and I are the only lefties among our siblings. His birthday is April 23, 1981. We also have two cousins that are left handed, both male, also siblings. Todd's birthday is August 31, 1986. His brother's birthday is March 2, 1989. I also have a nephew who is left handed. His birthday is September 24, 1994. I do not know of any other females in my family who are left handed. Is it common for more men than women to be left handed?
  189. Laura B
I was born in Jacksonville, Fl at the naval hospital. I have 1 uncle that is left handed besides myself and both of my children are right-handed as well as my parents. Back in the dinosaur age going to school was very difficult for me especially using left handed scissors so I adapted and only cut with my right hand. As a kindergarten teacher I have found the scissors now days are much more adapted to both hands. I also had a former parent tell me that I shouldn't be a teacher because I made my checks backwards...

I have submitted the form on behalf of my son who is only 6! I subscribe to this newsletter as it is so infomative and gives me an incite into what I might need to be aware of in the future with regards his left handedness. My father in law is also left handed and his birthday is 9th August 1943. Born in the UK.
  195. Cindy
My aunt is lefthanded and her birthday is January 29, 1947. I'm forwarding this to my sister who is also lefthanded as is one of her sons.

After moving to Missoula, MT it was amazing to see a lot more left-handed people here. I had read (after we moved here) that left-handed people were attracted to the region.

In my family growing up me and my brother were the only lefties. I married a rightie and 2 of our 4 kids are lefties 1 boy and 1 out 3 girls.
  209. Sybil Davis

Just to follow on from the details that i supplied regarding my date of birth (9th May 1977) I am the eldest of six, out of the six of us, 5 are left handed, all of those 5 were born from May to July. The 6th (brother) who is right handed, was born in December.
Just thought that might help in your study, excellent news letter, look forward to the new edition everytime, keep up the good work.
  212. Lois Procopion
My birthday is on the same date of Beatle, Paul McCarthy, who is also left-handed.
  213. Janice Del Medico
Where do I fit in? I am an identical twin--left handed. My twin sister is right-handed, as is every single member of my family going back as far as I can remember. My birth date is May 20, the last day for Taurus. My mother said we were 2 weeks early, and thus would have been born Gemini, appropriately so. Also, I have no left-handed children. I seem not to fit any typical left-handed pattern. The teachers in grade school told my parents to tie back my left hand--they said absolutely not. He even bought me left-handed bowling shoes, which were much nicer and more expensive than my sister's. My brother taught me to play baseball when I was seven, and automatically put me in the right-handed position. I also golf righty. I was on a baseball team in my teens and was a pretty good left-handed pitcher. Got a lot of strikeouts. I'm all over the map on which hand I use, but I have a much better memory and organized brain than my twin. I think being left-handed has enriched my life, and has not made things difficult. We adapt better than righties because we have no choice.
  214. Jodi Eddy
I will also say that my mother and sister were/are lefties. My mothers birthday was August 27, 1943 and my sister's is March 30, 1962.
    1. Jodi Eddy
I forgot :) My adopted son is also a lefty, his birthday is September 26, 2000.
  215. Pamela
I was born in New York in August of 81 and I am a leftie. My brother was born a year and a day later in Texas and he is a leftie also. My sister though was born in West Germany and is a rightie. She always l i kes to say she is the oldest and she got all the brains in the family. I always respond with us lefties are always in the right state of mind though.
  216. Lynda Owens
I just sent you my data, but would like to add that my mother, daughter, and granddaughter are also lefties! My mother was born 11 May, 1922, my daughter on 5 Nov. 1966, and my granddaughter on 24 May, 1998. I also had a left-handed cousin, who was born in August, 1942.
  217. Robert M Pollock
Other left handers: Louis Armstrong , 1901, and Barak Obama. 1961.
  218. AMY
I think it's weird that out of 8 kids (and two parents) and being the youngest that I'm the only left handed one out of the bunch!
