Do you hang your clothes left-handed?

Clothes hung left-handed, facing to the left

There are all sorts of things that we do “our” way without realising that it is different. Someone pointed out to me recently that all the clothes in my wardrobe were hanging the “wrong” way (a right-hander of course), but I had never really thought about it.

All my shirts and jackets were hanging facing to the LEFT (it is not normally that neat, I spread them out for the photo!).

If you are left-handed, how do you normally hang your clothes? Facing Left or Right?

Not thought about it before, but my wife faces right. However, checked my right handed daughter and hers face left like mine!

  2. Shyrlene says:

All of my clothes hang facing right ,regardless of how the closet door opens. For me its about using my left hand to retreave or hang the garment:-)

  3. Miranda says:

My clothes face left because my closet opening is on right, if it were left, then I would hang them to the right. I’d rather see the front of my clothes when searching for what to wear.

  4. Joyce Carter says:

If I ever went shopping for clothes with my mother she always said I hung the clothes back on the rail the wrong way. I hung them facing left (I am left handed) and my right handed mother hung them facing right.

I think there are several factors involved in this, depending on where the wardrobe is located and which door is opened.

You probably want to see the front of the clothes when you approach them/open the door. My wardrobe is on the left, so when I open the door, they’re facing right. I’m sure if the wardrobe was located on the right, they’d be the other way round.

I feel like I’m missing something. It has to do with the design of the closet, how the doors open, if it’s a walk-in or not. But I use my left hand to insert the hanger…the direction of the hook depends on the closet.

I do not think the direction of clothes hanging is determined so much by handedness as much as the location of the bar to the door. I think shirts, et.al. will be hung to face you when you walk into the closet or open the door.

I am a leftie, but could not vote in the poll because …..

I hang my clothes facing the centre of the wardrobe – so clothes on the left fact right, and clothes on the right face left. Go figure!

I CAN ONLY WRITE LEFT HANDED, NOT RIGHT! I MUST USE SCISSORS, CUT FOOD,I PLAYED SPORTS RIGHT SIDED EVERYTHING ELSE HAS TO BE W/MY RIGHT SIDE THAT JUST SEEMS LIKE MY MOST “COORDINATED” SIDE.

I’m a lefty but face my clothes right. Guess I was brain washed. LOL

  11. CANDACE GEISER says:

I’d never thought about it before. I checked- I’m ambidextrious and all mine hang right, but my husband, who is a complete lefty, hangs his left.

  12. Mike Rex says:

I always hang my clothes facing left.
