About this product

Left Hand Writing Skills Book 1 – 'Fabulous Fine Motor Skills'. The first of a series of three books specially created to help left-handed children develop their writing skills from the very beginning.

The first set of books ever to focus exclusively on left-handers, written by Mark and Heather Stewart who have a left-handed son and years of experience working with left-handers. The objective of Book 1 is to establish good basic habits of paper positioning and pencil hold, then to develop the fine motor skills needed for accurate, consistent writing at a later stage.

Pages are bound from the top of each worksheet, allowing the left hand to rest on a level surface with no obstacles – a key practical advantage over standard books.

The illustrations are aimed primarily at 6–7 year-olds, when many left-handed children become more conscious of the difference between their writing style and that of their right-handed peers. However, the overall design is suitable for any age – we've heard from grateful users nearer to retirement age than to next year's Year 2!

Features:

  • A4 size (210 x 297mm)
  • 28 full-colour worksheets, each with guidance and tips
  • Guidance notes on writing technique and skills development
  • Lined practice sheet (can be photocopied)
  • Reference guide to correct left-handed formation of all letters and numbers
  • Fun characters Billy Beetle, Sam Spider, Willie Woodlouse and Sally Snail lead children through the exercises
  • Uses Sassoon Infant font – widely used in schools
  • Suitable from age 6–7, though also helpful for older learners

Fantastic help I suddenly realised my son really didn't know how to form letters etc in a left handed way. We do a little of this book every night & its making such a difference. I would urge all parents of lh children to buy this, the writing mat & the wrist support. Makes such a difference.

Very helpful My 4 year old daughter had been struggling to form her letters and with two right handed parents we'd stuggled helping her but with this book she is learning how to tilt the paper and form her letters better and faster then we imagined. Fun pages with mazes and cute pictures to go with the letters.

Really helpful for promoting better writing skills my reluctant son quite enjoys the games but is prone to returning to his original letter formation once he puts the books down - but practice makes perfect and the size and general position of the letters has already improved
