Make those little cake forks with the thick edge on the wrong side.

50 years ago when I was 19, I applied for a job as a lathe operator after having finished a course at a county tech. school. First question I was asked is if I was right OR left handed. I told the man I was left handed and he told me he couldn’t use me because all the machines were designed to be used by RIGHT handed people !

They lost a good reliable smart employee.—their loss.

Is there any relation between left handedness and language learning?

    • Chloe says:

I hope there is one! I’m a french lefty and when i was at school the only classes i was good at were sports and language.

Just seen this & that’s an interesting point. Never really thought I was adept at languages until I moved to the Flanders side of Belgium and had to learn Dutch. People are amazed at how good I speak it!

They say there is a correlation between left-handedness and dyslexia, (I’m left-handed and a special ed teacher) and certainly I saw higher number of lefties on my caseloads year after year. None the less, that isn’t intelligence, that’s learning. What I prefer to notice is that the last 3 presidents were lefties, and Einstein, and John Stewart and a bunch of other people who I think are pretty smart.

I’m a media student and have had difficulty with video recording. As the camera is designed for right-handed use, the strap is on the right. As I’m left-handed my right hand is not as strong and so cannot support the camera whilst holding it to film. I have looked for left-handed video camera but can’t seem to find any, so am left to use a tripod stand. All that needs to be done is switch the strap to the left side, and the viewing screen to the right, and it would be instantly left-handed.

I’ve been having some problems with my right arm and elbow lately which has prompted me to do some creatve thinking about “what ifs” of the future. I am a secretary so my hands are my life but I also have other interests such as video and photography. Since I am having problems with my RIGHT hand and arm I was wondering if anyone has found any LEFT HANDED video cameras or a LEFT HANDED camera. I’m sure I could turn my camera upside down and use my thumb on the shutter but …. well, that would be a bit awkward to say the least.
