Hi Lefties, Im from South Africa, and very proud to be LH. As a kid, I was able to read before I could write, which resulted in my handwriting being crooked and most RH people couldnt read it. Especially my “a”. I was bored in class. Always. Everything they tried to teach me, I already knew. I started skipping school, came in fights and only excelled in sports like Cricket. I started drinking on a regular basis, and Im far from successful, but thanks to the info provided on this site I came to grips with why my life and thought patterns were so different, and I don’t feel singled out anymore, thanx guys. Keep up the good work for the ones “left”

Hello, I’m one of those lefties who holds his pencil or pen between the index finger and the middle finger of the left hand to write. I didn’t do that, however, when I wrote my book, “Forbidden Meteorology”, since I used a laptop to write it. I was unfortunate enough to be sent to a catholic school grades 1 to 3, where the nuns tried very hard to get me to change my writing style unsuccessfully. Noticed that brain research is biased towards right handed folk, perhaps because mental problems plague them more- just kidding. Anyone else hold his pen that way?

Yuppie finally I realised I’m not alone
I also hold pencils like this, my English teacher used to give a full mark for my exams however she used to write me this note ” please Maysaa improve your handwriting for god sake ”
I’m a graduate student at engineering school now aaaaand I still have such a bad Handwriting as and till holding my pencil this way.
The funny thing is that I’ve been almost the only leftie my entire school life

Hi have just joined the club,am a bit old at 56 but may help with lots of experience. It’s true back in the old days I was called craggy handed or there’s always one and it had to be me.Later on in life i decided to learn basic sign language I was the only lefty but found it easier than all the others because I could mirror the teacher.I now work at a school and always glance across the room when we get a new class to see how many left handlers there are.I have worked with kids for many years and in my experience left hand students are very good at practical subjects, and are also very artistic.
